Here's what the humans have to say about me:
There's nothing quite like puppy sweetness and silliness...and then they put their beautiful heads quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. These very loving and sweet as can be puppies are so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them homeless and alone on the city streets or in a high-kill shelter scheduled for euthanasia due to lack of space.
Poppy is a sweet and loving puppy! She has that wonderful kind of energy that is just irresistible. Now at 10 weeks old and 13 lbs (anticipated to be approximately 35 - 40 lbs or so when full grown), she's blossoming into a fun- loving ball of love and goodness. Poppy is also a stunning puppy (these photos don't do this gorgeous girl justice) with the scruffy and cottony-soft coat that Schnauzers are famous for. Poppy is believed to be a Schnauzer mix.
Poppy's forever family will need to make a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and excellent nutrition (5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are perfect lifelong protocols for general longevity and hair care) to keep Poppy's fluffy coat super-healthy, shining and as soft as cotton.
Poppy is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's also so loving and cuddly. This snuggly little girl would be very excited to be a couch potato to snuggle with her favorite people at the end of an active, busy day. Even at just 10 weeks old, it's very clear that this baby is SO smart, very engaging and happy as can be - very typical of both the Schnauzer and Scottish Terrier personalities.
Since Poppy is just a puppy, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion - she'll form firm bonds with her family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement puppy kindergarten followed by level 1 Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a puppy's ultimate behavior and in her relationship / bonding with her people. It does take time and commitment, yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior.
Farfel's Rescue feel very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement/force-free training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Poppy out to a home that doesn't choose to offer her this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement / force-free virtual and in-person trainers in your area.
We're open to Poppy finding her forever home with a retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart puppy. A younger family that works from a home-based office would also be a great choice for a puppy that would love nothing more than getting loved up periodically throughout the day.
Poppy enjoys her relationships with all humans and dogs. We would prefer, however, to place her in a home with older kids (tail pulling or rough treatment will create an adult dog that's fearful of children). Older kids can also be active participants in a training regimen and friendship that's so important in a dog's development.
Poppy will be up to date on her vetting / vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. Extensive new research shows that Freya is far too young to be spayed at this time. When she's approximately 12 months old, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Poppy's spay if one of our rescue vets is used. Spay is required to finalize any adoption.
Poppy is available for adoption now! Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet as can be, SO snuggly and super-loving puppy. An adoption application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.
**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Poppy, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
