My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

When this striking young man was rescued by MoKan, one name immediately seemed to fit – Redford – because he is so handsome!

His long, soft coat is a beautiful mixture of red, brown & black, with patches of white on his head, face & neck, along with his white sock feet. His unique brindle markings continue on his long, full tail that he happily wags frequently.

Redford came into MoKan as an unwanted stray, and those of us who have been in his presence simply cannot understand why. The sweetest personality accompanies Redford’s dashing looks, and he is all about pleasing his person. He has learned ‘sit’ and ‘down’ and is very mindful when his foster mom gives him direction. There is no doubt Redford would respond well to any type of training, and he is a big fan of rewards.

Although he is not very fond of his crate yet, with a few words of encouragement over time he stops whining and settles in. So far, there have been no accidents inside the house, and he is given numerous opportunities for bio breaks throughout the day and frequent yard time. He is learning to walk on a leash and seems to enjoy exploring, but right now we do a lot of zig zagging along the way.

Redford plays very nicely with his two foster dog siblings who are both smaller in size, and he would likely love to have a furry sibling. Although he has not exhibited any prey drive, per se, Redford does seem easily annoyed by the presence of his foster kitty cat siblings, so he might do best in a home without cats or small critters.

Redford is a 50 pound extremely loving two year-old with a lot of puppy playfulness but not the destructive behaviors that sometime accompany a puppy. He is very content to play with toys, balls, and gnaw on teething bones. He puts a paw on each shoulder and gives hugs to his foster mom, and he is always thrilled to receive a belly rub. He thinks brushing his hair is a game, with the winner being the one who captures the brush…but we’ll keep working on that.

Given that Redford has only recently discovered what it’s like to be in a loving home, it would probably be best if he is not left alone for extended periods of time.

Redford is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and receives monthly preventatives. He is being fostered in the St. Louis, MO area.

This good-looking fella is ready to find his happily forever with a family of his own. Could that be you?

Update on Redford:  He has adapted to so many new experiences, that were, at first, alarming to him. He has a keen sense of watch. We have been working on barking and wariness of strangers. Trips to Home Depot and PetsMart are now fun for him. Good progress has been made, but he will need a continuance of follow-through and patience in introducing new things. He loves the outdoors, playing in the sprinkler and just being with his foster mom and dad. A few considerations:

•. An enthusiastic greeting may be overwhelming to a child. Reaction to children have not been tested.

•. Redford has fit right in with our two female dogs, although a home without a male dog would be best.

•. A scary car ride is now top of his list for fun.

• He is very peaceful in the evening after an active day.

• His beautiful sleek, red coat is so easy to maintain.

•. Redford is affectionate and wants to please as we continue his training.

•. He is very athletic, and would do well in sports or as a running partner.

He will certainly make someone a very loyal and happy companion.

Redford is being fostered in the Wichita, KS area.
