**Note: Currently, Randy is in Korea, but we are looking for his forever home in Toronto. His flight from Korea to Toronto is scheduled for Mar 18.
Background: In December 2022, during the bitter cold of winter, Randy was rescued from a dog meat farm in Ganghwa, Korea, along with 50 other lucky dogs. At first, he lived in a shelter with other rescues, but the crowded environment was overwhelming for him. To help him feel more at ease, the shelter manager brought him into his home, where he has been much happier and calmer ever since.
Personality and Socialization: Randy has a calm, medium-to-low energy level. He loves cuddling with people but never demands attention—he’s content simply being near you, whether resting quietly by your side or snuggled up for warmth.
He gets along wonderfully with other dogs, especially those who are gentle and friendly. Thoughtful and respectful, he understands boundaries—if another dog needs space, he’ll patiently sit beside them without intruding. Randy has not been tested with cats or young children.
Behaviours: Laid-back and quiet indoors, Randy is a relaxed and easygoing companion. He’s well-mannered in the car, at the vet, and even during baths—while he may feel a little nervous in new situations, he trusts his humans to guide him. He walks well on a leash and enjoys peaceful strolls. He is also fully house-trained.
His gentle, affectionate nature makes him a joy to be around, and he thrives in a calm environment where he feels safe and loved.
Health and Diet: Randy is in excellent health. He is fully vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped, with negative parasite tests, including heartworms. He takes monthly parasite prevention and eats dry kibble twice a day with no known allergies.
Ideal Home: Randy’s mellow and friendly nature makes him a great fit for many types of homes. Whether he’s the only dog, part of a family with another canine companion, or living with someone new to dog ownership, he will adjust with ease. He’d make a wonderful walking partner and is just as happy relaxing at home, enjoying quiet moments with his family.
Randy has spent two years waiting for a home of his own. While he has been loved and well cared for, nothing compares to the warmth of a real home. Having endured heartbreaking conditions in the dog meat trade, he deserves the chance to be a cherished family member.
Randy is ready for a life filled with love, comfort, and companionship. Give him a second chance, and he will repay you with endless love and loyalty. He truly deserves to experience the joy of family life—a life full of cuddles, peaceful walks, and the happiness of belonging.

Free Korean Dogs (FKD) is a registered charity in Canada (BN:80580 0166RR0001).
Founded in Toronto, Canada on July 1st, 2015, our organizations rescue dogs from Korea’s dog meat trade and other at-risk circumstances and find their forever loving homes in Canada and the US.
Millions of dogs are slaughtered for meat consumption in Korea every year. Most of them are kept in tiny, overcrowded cages in dog meat farms and provided no water or shelter from the elements, and given only scraps of waste to eat. It is also common practice for dogs to be brutally tortured prior to slaughter as it is believed to enhance flavor and nutritional healing properties, despite an overwhelming lack evidence to support these claims.
Korea is the only country in the world that commercially farms dogs for food. Lack of legislation regulating the Korean dog meat trade result in the lack of standards for safety or humane treatment. Simply speaking, dogs can be obtained by any means, whether stray or farmed, and treated in unfathomable inhumane manners without consequence. The dog meat trade in Korea is a legislative gray area and political landmine that nobody in power wants to address.
Our international rescue and adoption program saves over hundreds of dogs each year from the Korean dog meat trade and finds their homes in Canada. Since 2015, we have shut down two dog meat farm operations, rescued over two hundreds dogs from the dog meat trade, and found forever homes for over seven hundreds dogs rescued from euthanasia or the risk of being forced into the meat trade.
We also promote public awareness to create a cultural shift from cruelty to compassion for dogs in Korea through campaigns, protests, and events. Through rescue, rehabilitation, and education, we hope one day all dogs and animals can lead peaceful and happy lives.
