My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm Melvin. I'm not a fan of this shelter place. It's loud, and there are way too many people coming and going. It makes me nervous, and I much prefer a quieter space where I can just be myself. I'm a bit shy at first, but once I feel safe, I'm a pretty chill guy who enjoys doing my own thing. A sunny spot by the window, a cozy spot to nap, and some space to just breathe is all I need to be content. I'm not the type to demand attention all the time. I'd love to find a calm, quiet home with someone who understands that I need a little time to adjust and respect my space. If you're looking for a low-key companion who will keep to himself but also enjoy your company in a relaxed way, I just might be the purrfect match for you.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1955, Woods Humane Society is a nonprofit organization which receives no tax funds, but is supported by donations, grants, bequests, fundraising events and fees for services. Woods is independent of San Luis Obispo County Animal Services, but works in close cooperation with them and other animal groups in the county for the welfare of all animals.

Woods now cares for over 3,000 cats and dogs each year at our facilities in San Luis Obispo and Atascadero until they can be united with loving forever families. We bring in animals from other shelters where they are less likely to be adopted and from individuals who are no longer able to care for their pets. Woods is committed to finding loving homes for all healthy and treatable pets, no matter how long it takes. With our behavior and veterinary resources, we are able to go the extra mile for animals in need.
