My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Popcorn! Popcorn is an adorable, 7-month-old puppy who was adopted from us about 4 months ago when he was just 3 months old. Originally, Popcorn was found as a stray in Arkansas, living in a bush with his mom and 4 other siblings. They were rescued and brought into a small shelter, and then booked a ticket to Colorado for a fresh start. After being adopted back in November, his owners have now decided that they don't have time to train, exercise, or play with him enough and have returned him to our rescue.

Popcorn is a cute-as-can-be 7-month-old, 15 lb Havanese/Maltese mix that is nothing but pure love. This pup is SO sweet and once acclimated to his new life, will be a happy and engaging pup giving 100% of his heart to his new family.

Due to a lack of training, socialization, and exposure to new experiences in his previous home, Popcorn has developed separation anxiety. He was rarely to never left alone from the time he was adopted to the time he was returned, and never given the opportunity to build confidence in new situations. As a result, he struggles with being away from his people and will need an adopter who can commit to training, socialization, and helping him learn to be more independent.

The ideal home for Popcorn would be with someone who works from home, is retired, or can bring him along with them when they leave the house. With patience, consistency, and love, Popcorn will gain the confidence he needs to thrive.

From Popcorn's fosters:
"Popcorn is a cute, fluffy, little puppy full of playful, silly energy. He does good meeting other people and gets along well with kids ages 5 & 9 that he has met. He gets excited and loves attention. He is not great on leash yet, and we are working on training him on some of the basics. But he will thrive with a home ready to play with him and train a young dog.
Popcorn sleeps in bed with me, and he is mostly potty trained. At first as he settled in, he was anxious (when he was first returned to the rescue) and had accidents. but once he settled in and got into my routine he is potty trained again."

Because of Popcorn's unfortunate last few months, he is undersocialized with other dogs. While he is not aggressive, he can be unsure or awkward in his interactions and will need continued exposure to other well-socialized dogs and training to help him build confidence and improve his social skills. With time, patience, training, and positive experiences, he has the potential to become more comfortable around other pups. However, when it comes to people, Popcorn is a total lovebug! He absolutely adores human attention and is friendly with everyone he meets, including kids. He thrives on affection, belly rubs, and being included in family life, making him the perfect companion for someone looking for a loyal, people-loving pup.

Popcorn will require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming (approximately every 8 - 10 weeks) and great nutrition (5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are excellent protocols for longevity and coat care) to keep Popcorn's hair super- healthy, cottony-soft and matte-free.

Popcorn is up to date on his vaccines. He is not yet neutered. It’s been shown that neutering closer to 1 year old is better for the dog’s health. For this reason, we give any puppy under 1 until they are 1 year old to be neutered. Neuter is required by law to finalize any adoption, and Farfel’s Rescue covers the full cost of his neuter.

Popcorn is available for adoption now. Applications are currently being accepted for this very loving best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-res. cue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Popcorn please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
