My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SOCKS NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name:   Socks          Best Guess for Breed:   Terrier/Basset Mix

Best Guess for Age:   1 year as of Jan 2025        SEX:   Male

Approximate Weight:  36 lbs

Gets Along With:    Other dogs. We haven't seen him with cats but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!

Currently Living at:  DC area foster home.

Special adoption considerations:   Because Socks is shy, he needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog. We would be cautious placing Socks in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.

Socks is Looking For:   A home with an active family who loves going on fun adventures. Whether it's chasing after a ball in the yard, going for a stroll in the park, or just snuggling up on the couch, I'm ready to be your loyal sidekick.  My previous human didn't give me a lot of chances to explore the world, so I'm ready to learn how to meet and have fun with new friends!  With your help, I know I can become well-mannered and confident.  All I need is a bit of patience, lots of love, and plenty of socialization.

Are you ready to embark on this exciting journey with me? I promise to bring joy, laughter, and endless love into your life. Let's make amazing memories together!

What My Foster Says About Me:   Socks is shy and would do well with another dog at home who wants to engage and play (he and my dog now get along and co-exist well in the apartment together). Once he knows you though, he warms right up to his foster humans; he always meets other dogs with a wagging tail and a friendly sniff. He does well in the crate overnight. During the day, he's just in search of a couch with some fuzzy blankets. He does not bark and just looks for a good sun spot while on the couch. His energy levels are low to moderate. He likes walks and is getting used to all of the city sounds and meeting new people.. If he does get scared, if you bend down to get 'on his level' and reach out your hand and say his name, he can start building courage and will walk towards you; using the leash to slowly lead him in/out of crate, in/out of front door, up/down has really helped build his confidence.

Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.

TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online   at   bit.ly/adoptaluckydog  .

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
