My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mortimer

Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog
Age: 3.5 y+/-, Male
Weight: 55 pds
Medical: UTD on all vaccines, Neutered, microchipped
Cat Friendly: Yes
Dog Friendly: Yes, would be better as an only
Kid Friendly: Yes, Older
Crate Trained: Yes
House Trained: Yes
Location: Omro, Wisconsin

Very loving dog to his owner and loves to cuddle. Smart with some interesting quirks. Loves to do tricks such as lay, spin-around, roll-over, jump thru hoop, and crawl. Lives on a homestead / hobby farm with a lot of mild stressors to Mort. He would do much better in a quieter setting with a fenced yard.
Mort needs a home that will walk with him and just focus on him. He is coming from a home that is just too busy and he needs the focus to be on him. His biggest issue currently is that he is a bit of a thief! He likes to counter surf, but again this can be worked with! If you are interested in this love bug let us know!

Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.

If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.

Mort’s adoption donation is $300 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and neuter depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter, then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.

3.

Approve Application

Additional adoption info

We have a written application followed by a phone interview. If the applicant is approved past this point then we check 2 personal references as well as their vet reference. If they rent we speak with their landlord as well. If all is well at this point then we do a home check. The final step is a meet and greet where the adopter and the household, including dogs travel to meet the new adoptive dog. If all goes well they can adopt. There is an adoption contract and the adoption fee ranges between $200-400 depending on the fees that we put into the particular dog.

Go meet their pets

We support local "ma & pa" business before the big box chains since many of us come from some communities. We also attended fairs and "meet & greet" events.

More about this rescue

We are all volunteers that love and appreciate the breed. Our board members all have many years of breed knowledge and have all adopted or fostered rescued animals.
