My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our adoption fees have dropped until March 1, 2025 in honor of puppy love, and we're practically bursting with excitement to introduce you to your new best friend! 💕

🐾 Adults – Now only $225 (was $250)!
They’ve got the wisdom, the snuggles, and the "already potty trained" bonus.

You know what’s so great about fostering? Besides the free emotional rollercoaster and sudden increase in dog hair on every surface you own? It’s getting to watch a terrified shelter dog—one that was this close to meeting an untimely end—transform into an absolute gem of a companion. Enter Mazapan. The dog who sat in the shelter for over a month, getting passed over like a last-picked dodgeball player, until he finally landed on the euthanasia list. Why? Because no one wanted him. Because he had nowhere to go. Because the shelter was bursting at the seams. But plot twist! An amazing foster family stepped up, gave him a second chance, and now here he is—glowing like a reality show makeover contestant, ready to steal the heart of whichever lucky family is smart enough to adopt him.

Mazapan is a 2-year-old, 80-ish pound Great Pyrenees mix, which means he comes with all the standard Pyr features: independent streak, excessive fluff, and the ability to make you question whether he’s listening or just expertly ignoring you. Now, let’s address the elephant (or rather, the two small, soon-to-be-gone elephants) in the room. Maz has yet to, umm… part ways with his crown jewels. His appointment is coming up, though, and let’s just say once his "family jewels" hit the pawn shop, he may become a little more open-minded about sharing his kingdom with another large male. Until then, he’s got a bit of that classic “I’m the man of the house” energy when it comes to other big boys. However, his lady friend? He adores her. They play, they cuddle, they’re basically starring in their own doggy rom-com. As for cats, Maz has zero interest in their shady, world-domination plans. He’s far too busy soaking up human attention to care about their dramatic monologues on feline superiority. Kids? He’s cool with them! His current foster home has a 5-year-old, a 3-year-old, and an almost 2-year-old, and while he’s totally fine with the tiny humans, let’s be real—he might prefer a slightly more structured environment. (Translation: If your house feels like a constant episode of “Toddler Gladiators,” he may need some breaks.) He’d thrive best in a home with kids 6+ who understand that he’s a majestic creature and not a jungle gym. As for meeting new people? Mazapan is all about it. He’ll get excited at first, do a little happy dance, and then settle in like the professional cuddle enthusiast he is. So if you’re looking for a fluffy, affectionate best friend, Mazapan is ready to grace your home with his presence.

As far as his energy level goes, he is a solid 5 out of 10. Meaning that Maz can be active and he can be chill. If going places is your thing but you are worried about trying to get his fluffy caboose into the car, fear not! Maz loves car rides and he is the perfect car rider! He just sits and in the back seat and gazes at the scenery! As far as going to public places, he hasn't done much leash walking so unsure of his tendencies at the moment! I do think he would do fine though! If just the thought of going places and having to socialize is giving you anxiety, no worries. It is not a must for Maz and he would be he is super content just lounging at home! Mazapan is the perfect mix of chill and playful, with just the right amount of energy to keep things interesting. He’ll occasionally get a case of the zoomies, tearing around the backyard like an overcaffeinated racehorse, but don’t be fooled—this is a temporary burst of enthusiasm. Once he’s proven his athleticism (to himself, mostly), he’s more than happy to crash for a well-earned nap and some quality cuddle time. When it comes to playtime, he enjoys romping around with other dogs for a bit before deciding that lounging is far superior. He’ll even chase a toy if you throw it, but let’s be clear—retrieval is not his responsibility. That’s a you problem.

Mazapan is surprisingly adaptable for a dog of his size and Pyr heritage, meaning he doesn’t require a big, fenced-in yard to live his best life. He’s perfectly content being leash-walked for exercise and bathroom breaks, as long as his human sticks to the routine. If you’re looking for a 80-pound fluffy roommate who won’t redecorate your home with questionable digging projects, he’s your guy. Apartment dwellers, you’re in luck—he’s got city-dog potential, minus the latte addiction. As for commands, he’s got the basics down: sit, shake, and lay down. Anything beyond that? Well, he is part Pyr, so let’s just say compliance is optional depending on what’s in it for him. Potty trained? Absolutely. Crate trained? Ehh, sort of. He’ll go in, but if you actually close the crate, he suddenly remembers that he’s a free spirit and has opinions about confinement. Couch privileges? He’s got ‘em, but he’s not a full-time couch hog. If you invite him up, he’ll humor you for a bit before remembering he’s the size of a small horse and prefers stretching out on the floor like the majestic creature he is. Destructive tendencies? None. He’s not interested in redecorating your house with chewed-up shoes or digging a bunker in the backyard. Mazapan is what we like to call a situational barker. He’s not the type to stand at the window, passionately monologuing about every passing leaf, squirrel, or suspicious-looking Amazon box. No, Maz is more of a hype man when it comes to barking. If the other dogs in the house decide that, say, the wind is looking particularly shady today, he’ll back them up with a few barks of solidarity—because, you know, peer pressure. But left to his own devices? He’s pretty chill and doesn’t see the need to yell about every little thing. Mazapan is what we like to call a respectable gentleman when it comes to having free roam of the house. He’s not interested in redecorating with shredded couch cushions or turning your favorite shoes into modern art. Nope, he’s got better things to do—like napping, supervising from his favorite spot, and waiting for his next round of affection. That being said, he is a Pyr mix, so while he’s trustworthy, he also believes in personal agency. If you leave food unattended within his reach, well... then he might just think you wanted to surprise him with a snack. ;)

So, here’s the deal—Mazapan is officially accepting applications for his new human. Think of it like The Bachelor, but instead of handing out roses, he’ll be handing out fluffy cuddles and mild judgment (because let’s be honest, he’s part Pyr, and they all have opinions). If you’ve been dreaming of a dog who’s equal parts chill, affectionate, and loves to cuddle with you, congratulations—your perfect match is waiting. Now, don’t just sit there imagining how majestic he’ll look stretched out on your living room floor like a lounging king. Fill out that adoption application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app, and we’ll send it to his amazing foster family so they can decide if you’re worthy of his presence. And if you’re the lucky winner? Well, you get the absolute privilege of picking up this 80-pound bundle of love and fluff in Piedmont, OK. So, get that application in—Mazapan is ready to upgrade your life.
