Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Osita von Ornbau is a gorgeous, 1-2 year-old German Shepherd. Housebroken, crate-trained and good with children, she is definitely a people-pup, preferring humans to canine companionship. Just call her name and she bounds towards you as if she didn't just see you minutes ago. This sweet girl walks in a heel position next to you. She can also walk comfortably in a pack with 6 other dogs, whom she greets courteously but prefers not to engage with them. In canine playgroups she is comfortable but opts not to socialize and avoids any scuffles; she chooses to solicit the company and pets from our handlers. Osita is said to like children and be good alone in the house/yard. She also passed her initial cat testing.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
