My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I’m Kai. I was rescued from the side of the freeway when I was a tiny kitten. My tail was injured and had to be amputated. I had a home with the man who rescued me for my whole life. Sadly, he became very ill and passed away. A friend of his took me but couldn’t keep me and brought me to SBACC so I could find another home. I am only five years old and very handsome with soft black fur and beautiful green eyes. I’m also friendly and affectionate and have lots of love to give to a new Mom or Dad or even a whole family. I enjoy pets and belly rubs and will purr in appreciation.

Dog adoptions include a written application and an on site interview. All family members, including other resident dogs, must meet the new dog.

The adoption process for cats and kittens includes:
A detailed application.
An interview with the potential adopter(s).
And a home visit, in some circumstances.

To ensure the best possible match for our cats and kittens, all applications are reviewed by our adoption committee and determination can take up to 48 hours.

We are an all-volunteer, no-kill, non-profit animal shelter formed in 1986 to find homes for the dogs, cats lost within our city limits. We are a California non-profit 501-C3 corporation # 33-0192138 so all donations are tax-deductible.

We are always in need of volunteers and have many areas in which you can share your talents. Please attend one of our volunteer classes to get started.
