My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I have kept Laka for 3 weeks for a short term foster. With her compact body at 43 pounds and heart shaped face, 7-year-old Laka is adorable. She was an easy foster, except for some anxiety. Laka greeted me and my family affectionately with a wiggly body and soft eyes the first time she met us. We were able to pet her and handle her upon arrival. Laka lived with a single owner for the past 6 years, with children and dogs. Lake slept through the night without making any noise, although I did need about two hours to settle her in the first night. During the day, she stayed in a room without destroying anything or making much noise, only occasionally whining or barking, Her favorite toys are Kongs, balls and bones. She knows "shake" and "sit" with some encouragement. Laka is housebroken and pad trained as long as she is taken out on a schedule. Laka walked nicely on a leash, with some pulling which disappeared with a front clip harness and a traffic handle. She saw dogs on walks, but did not overly react. She saw my dogs through a gate and wanted to get closer to them. Laka met 2 young dogs at an adoption event and tolerated them as long as they did not jump near her face. Laka seems to have prey drive and has the instinct to chase cats and other small animals, so she would do best in a cat free home and with dogs closer to her size. It seems as though she does best with calm dogs close to her size with a slow introduction.
Laka does have anxiety about riding in a car. She should be securely tethered, crated or have someone riding in the back of the car with her. Anyone who adopts or fosters Laka is in for a time with a loving and affectionate dog.
