Meet Hongdan💘
Hongdan was found living in the Gimje Shelter under harsh conditions, which put her at high risk for contagious diseases. Concerns over her health and the potential for disease spread prompted her urgent rescue to provide her with a safer environment and necessary medical care.
• With People: Hongdan has not had many positive experiences with people and is currently very fearful and wary. She tends to growl when making eye contact, using it as a defense mechanism. She needs a calm, patient environment and someone who can wait for her to make the first move.
• With Dogs: She usually sniffs new dogs and then retreats to her own space. She can growl or bark if another dog comes too close, especially in one-on-one encounters. She seems more comfortable in group settings like shelters, where she can observe from a distance.
• Separation Anxiety: She is independent and calm when left alone, usually resting quietly.
• Potty Training: She is doing well with pee pad training and generally uses it reliably indoors.
• Car Rides: Hongdan experiences motion sickness and tends to drool during car rides.
💌 Special Notes💌
• Upon first arriving at her foster home, Hongdan showed coprophagia (eating feces)—likely a stress response to the unfamiliar environment. With time and guidance, this is improving.
• She is very fearful of both people and dogs, and may show defensive nipping if someone approaches or touches her too quickly. She requires a home that will give her time, space, and consistency.
• She prefers strong-smelling treats, which she will take from your hand, but she only eats kibble when no one is watching.
• She feels safest in her kennel, which she recognizes as her own space, and she often rests peacefully inside.
