ABOUT SLADE
Calling all GSD lovers, meet Slade! This handsome guy is a 4-year-old German Shepherd with the sweetest personality. Slade came to HAP when his owner unexpectedly went into hospice and sadly has passed away. Understandably, he was a little depressed his first few days at the shelter but has really blossomed with time! You know how sometimes you meet a dog and you can just tell they have been loved and treated well? Well, that's Slade! While we didn't have the chance to know his owner, you can tell that they absolutely adored him. Slade loves compliments, as if he's used to hearing how handsome he is! He is very well socialized with people, loving everyone he meets and being the best behaved boy. Slade already knows basic commands, appears house-trained, and walks well on a leash. He also has fairly good recall and is quick to respond to his name. He has done well with other dogs, though he can't tell the difference between cats and squirrels so a kitty-free home would be best. He loves zooming around our fenced fields, playing with squeaky balls, and more than anything - he LOVES being loved! Slade is a total mush, he will do anything for neck, ear, back, or butt scratches. He adores spending time with people, but also does well when we have to leave him and doesn't seem to have anxiety alone. Slade has spent some time hanging with our office staff, where his favorite activities include squeezing his big body under a desk to lay close to you or resting his head next to a laptop. He's quick to voice his mind and tell you what he wants, with either a quiet, inside bark or by pawing at you. If you have been looking for a well-mannered, gentle GSD, then come meet Slade!
If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
