Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Cheyenne von Clingen is a stunning, 12-month-old, long-haired German Shepherd. Medium-energy Cheyenne comes out happy with a wagging tail, ready for her walk. She does well on her outings, enjoys sniffing around and likes to stay close. Cheyenne walks great with a group of dogs and meets them face-to-face with no issues. She is very sweet and loving and has an amazing fluffy coat. She's also a major love bug who will climb right into your lap, asking for attention, and who loves being rubbed all over. Cheyenne will shower you with kisses in return, nudging your hand to ask for pets. This awesome girl knows “Sit," “Down," and “Paw," and takes treats gently. A good mingler and greeter, she enters playgroups calmly, ready to explore, and does great with all the dogs. She doesn't care for pushy ones, however, and will give them a little correction. To top it all off, Cheyenne is good with cats!
Rescued from the Lancaster animal shelter.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
