My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Missing 1 eye, glaucoma in the remaining eye, takes daily rx meds

What would you call a Bassett Hound – Terrier cross?  A Barrier?  A Tassett?  Well, when you meet Ruby, you are going to call her WONDERFUL.  If you are looking for a dog to cuddle, and a dog to walk and a dog to entertain you and cheer you up when you are sad, then you are looking for Ruby.  She is a lap dog extraordinaire, good with kids, cats and other dogs, and full of love.  She is good on the leash (not super trained, but easy to walk) and enjoys a casual toddle around the neighborhood.  She is good in the car, and has been to her foster grandmother’s nursing home on several occasions, and always does really well there.  She can be hesitant with new people, but she does warm up quickly.  Ruby is spayed, house-broken, and up to date on all her shots.  She is missing an eye, as it was removed due to glaucoma, and she needs a prescription drop twice a day in her remaining eye, as well as twice a day thyroid medicine – but she takes her meds like a champ and it takes less than a minute to administer.

The only real problem with Ruby is that she is a bed hog.  Ruby, of course, wants to sleep on the bed with her person – but she wants to sleep perpendicular to you – so that she takes up 2/3rds of the available bed space.  You can turn her around, but you better move quick, because she naturally rotates back to center.  Once she’s down, she sleeps well and doesn’t move around.

Ruby needs an owner who has love (and bed space) to give.  Could that person be you?

Ruby's adoption fee is $250 and includes her spay, microchip, and current vaccinations/ prevention. Our adoption process includes a background check, home visit, and vet history check. Last Hope requires all animals be kept as indoor only pets and that adopters have a history of keeping their pets altered and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. If you are interested in meeting or adopting Ruby please fill out an adoption application on our website for consideration, adopthope.org
