Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Chilli (About 2-3 years old as of December, 2024) is a spayed female orange tabby shorthaired cat. Chilli lived her whole life in a big Waukegan feral cat colony until she was trapped as part of a trap neuter return effort. Her trapper saw an orange cat and figured it was a male and would be a simple neuter and release after a few days, but Chilli surprised them by giving birth to 6 kittens just before her "neuter" appointment. It's hard to imagine a situation more stressful for a feral cat than giving birth to 6 kittens in cage, but Chilli took it in stride, and not only let humans reach in to help with her kittens but came to really enjoy being petted. It turns out in Chilli's colony all the neighbors like cats and pet them any chance they got, so she was half tamed already. She's awkward about being held never having been used to that, but she likes being petted and is very happy living indoors among people- at least when her 6 kittens aren't attacking her! Despite getting a little overwhelmed by the mass of kittens she created Chilli is a Miss Congeniality among other adult cats- she absolutely loves other cats and wants to be best friends with all of them. She'd be a great little companion for an older kitty that needs a buddy who is young enough to have fun but not too crazy. We're not sure how Chilli would feel about a dog, but we'd be willing to do a trial run for a calm dog with some cat experience. She's handled being fostered with 2 elementary age kids very well but her reaction to too much chaos is to retreat and hide so we think she'd be best for families with older kids.
