My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Coco and wow, am I a sweet girl. Just after I was rescued, we found out I was going to have puppies. My puppies are now finding homes of their own and it's time for me to as well.

I'm very shy and timid at first, but will come around on my own time table. I have spent time in three different foster homes to help me overcome my shyness. I seem to be housetrained and crate trained. I love to observe things from a distance when I go to a new place, but will settle in well with a steady routine. You will notice me peeking around the corner at you from time to time and when I'm ready, I will take treats from you and approach gently for some ear scratches and petting. My foster families agree that I really do want your attention and approval, but it just takes me a little longer than most dogs to accept it. When you least expect it, I will grab toys and shake them and play. They all say that it is the cutest thing. I also get along with all other dogs I have met, so I am nicely social in that respect. Finally, small children will probably be overwhelming for me, so I will need a home with adults and older children.

Because it might take me a little longer to adjust, my fosters are going to be very selective on where I go because they care for me so much. The perfect person for me is someone who will be patient and loving, and who will also not have high expectations for an immediate bond. That will come in time, I promise. You won't regret investing your time in me.

Additional adoption info

FEES:
Dogs are $225
Puppies under 1 year are $275
Cats and kittens are $185

All animals have been spayed/neutered, received age appropriate vaccinations, had a heart-worm test, a Feline Leukemia test and a fecal check and are dewormed, microchipped and current on heart-worm and flea preventative medications at the time of adoption.

Adopters must be 21 and have a valid Texas driver’s license or a state-issued ID that matches the home address. If new to the area, a utility bill in the name of adopter will suffice. Renters must present proof of pet deposit or landlord approval to have a pet.

We require that you visit with a pet and adoption counselor. We prefer that all family members be present when the pet is introduced to its potential new family. Current pets are welcomed and encouraged to be part of the meeting too.

If a good match is found, adopters complete an application. Same day adoptions may be done; however, Habitat 4 Paws reserves the right to request a home visit prior to adoption. We do not hold pets nor do we adopt on a first-come/first-serve basis.

Go meet their pets

Nearly every weekend our pets that are ready for adoption are featured at locations such as Petsmart, Pet Supplies Plus and other locations. We can also arrange visits throughout the week. Check out the Events page of our website for a current schedule of events: www.habitat4paws.org.

More about this rescue

The mission of H4P is to rescue and find permanent homes for dogs and cats while caring for them in a volunteer-staffed facility and foster program. We are currently raising funds for a building and in the interim are a foster based group.

Beyond just sheltering animals, we are proactive in other areas that will help keep animals out of municipal shelters. Paws Pantry animal-food bank collects and distributes dog and cat food to those in need. H4P hosts microchip clinics so that animals will have a permanent ID and can be reunited with their owners.
