The look Mario gives when he hears his story.
Opari was asked to help some local dogs and sadly the story is incredibly common. Mario and his siblings lived with a suspected backyard breeder and aged out of their inventory at 10 months old. We were told they were Golden retrievers of some sort, so imagine our surprise when they were not Golden, but hey black dogs need homes too!
We appreciate ethical breeders that do their part to better the breed standards, and support police and service dogs but that is really where the need for responsible breeding ends. Most breeders you encounter are “backyard” and are just breeding to sell inventory. They care little about the health and well-being of their animals no matter what they say. Any type of breed combination, think designer mixes breeds, and you good ole Doodles are the product of a backyard breeder and are not being ethically bred or doing anything to better their breed of origin. Please educate yourself before helping to support a backyard breeder and remember we are always here with wonderful dogs that need homes even if they probably aren't a RARE purebred golden retriever.
