One of our staff members spotted Lunch Lady on a visit to Chicago Animal Care and Control and could not get her out of her mind. Lunch Lady's owner needed to move out of state and could not take her dog. It is so heartbreaking when senior pets who have lived their entire lives in a home are suddenly uprooted and land in such a stressful environment like animal control.
When we took Lunch Lady out of her kennel she was so sweet and affectionate. We had her meet some other dogs and she really came alive with lots of kisses and tail wags!
We were lucky enough to have an amazing foster home for Lunch Lady to go to. She has been living with her foster mom and a Golden Retriever sibling. Lunch Lady is housebroken, and has not been crated but has been left 4 hours to free roam and done just fine! She enjoys the company of her foster sibling but they do not really play. Lunch Lady will play with toys if you put the effort in to get her excited about it! She also walks great on a leash.
Lunch Lady's foster mom recently watched an 18 month old baby for a few days in a row, and Lunch Lady was very calm and accepting of the toddler's attention.
Her foster mom writes, "LL is sweet as pie, super mellow, and super low maintenance. She’s very sweet, loves to go for walks and can be left alone for hours without any issues. She is potty trained and has no destructive behaviors. She would be a wonderful addition to any home."

Lunch Lady’s adoption fee is $150. This animal is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative. Lunch Lady has a dental procedure scheduled on 3/10/25 to be covered by us, but an adopter will need to work with us to ensure she can make this appointment.
