Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Mango von Mallentin is a gorgeous, 2-year-old German Shepherd. He is always happy and ready to head out; he walks great on leash, with a medium energy level. Mango enjoys greeting people, meets dogs well and does fine in doggie group-walks. This handsome boy is alert and inquisitive, and has these beautiful amber eyes that can make you fall in love with him instantly. He is a total lovebug who is eager to please and will shower you with kisses. Mango also likes to lean on you and melt in your arms, showing that he loves people and craves their affection and attention. He knows his Sit command and is very treat-motivated, taking treats gently. Our super-handsome lad does well in playgroups, which he enters comfortably and excited to explore. He will happily indulge any dog that invites him to play and has a blast in the yard! Per his surrender form: Mango is good with kids, good alone in the house, crate-trained, leash-trained and knows: Sit, Quiet, Off, Come and Heel. A fantastic package of looks, smarts, personality and training, wouldn’t you say? A “perfect 10” on all fronts - but no small dogs or cats, please.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
