My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A BIG, LOVABLE GUY: Approx. 9 years old / 102 lbs. & needs to lose a lot of weight!

Hi, my name is Goliath!  I was with Mostly Mutts back in 2019 when I was adopted and thought I had found my furever home.  Unfortunately, that was not the case due to no fault at all of mine!  Thankfully, I worked my way back to Mostly Mutts from animal control and have once again become a favorite of the shelter volunteers!  I got to spend some time in the prison/foster training program where I had a great time, worked on losing some of the 20+ lbs. I need to lose and I learned a lot, too!  I just went to a wonderful foster home so look for more updates about that soon!

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I liked the dogs I met at Mostly Mutts and in the prison/foster training program, although I did try to mount them sometimes, so if you have a patient doggie who wouldn’t mind that, let’s meet!  / I met a cat recently at Mostly Mutts and was interested, but respectful.  If you have a dog-friendly or dog-tolerant cat at home, let’s meet. / I met nice kids around 10 years old at Mostly Mutts, so kids 10+ in my new home could be a good fit for me.  Let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  It is no accident that the volunteers love me, and they describe me as ‘a total love who is sweet and wonderful’ with a gentle, friendly nature.  What’s not to love?  I’m super social with the volunteers.  I’m a big guy with the potential to be a strong puller, but I have had nice walking manners and I’m just so happy to be with you!  Loving and affectionate, I readily accept love and give it in return. / My energy level is 4-6.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I’m a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program so I’ve learned the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, ‘leave it’ and ‘place’ commands.  I also use proper door etiquette and have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping.  / I don’t like my crate and will protest loudly when being in there.  The good news is, I’ve been a good boy out of my crate, so I might not need one in my new home.  / My potty habits have been good on the shelter schedule so hopefully that will be the case in my new home, too.

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  I enjoy soaking up attention and love those butt scratches and having my handsome coat brushed.  Being with people makes me happy, and I will whine when people are nearby as if to say, ‘look at me – I’m ready to be your buddy!’ / I can’t think of any dislikes, though I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training.

• MEDICAL:  I'm current on my annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I came back to MM with ear infections which have been treated, and what seems to be chronic skin allergies, so I’m getting medicated baths twice a week which can be done in my new home.  I am also taking Apoquel to help with my allergies.  I may not have to stay on this medication long-term, so please ask about this.  I have minimal tartar on my molars, so my adoptive family should consult with their vet and consider a dental cleaning in the future.  I’ve started on an over-the-counter joint supplement, Cosequin, to help with some hip stiffness I’m experiencing which is likely due to my excess weight.  It’s good for older dogs as well so I should stay on it.

I am looking for a great family to give me a loving home for the rest of my life!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Who We Are:

Mostly Mutts is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, staffed almost entirely by volunteers!

Our Mission is to help the Unwanted, Abandoned, Abused and Sick animals in our local counties. We fulfill this mission by working closely with County Animal Control Facilities, saving those who are in imminent danger of euthanasia, or those with needs which require specialized vet care that many other groups will not consider: major orthopedic issues, heartworm positive treatment, skin conditions, neglect and abuse

Please visit our website, www.mostlymutts.org for additional information about adopting a new best friend!
