My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ADOPTION PENDING! This dog is matched with a potential adopter and is not currently available. However, you’re welcome to apply! While the chances of being matched with this dog are low, your application helps us get to know you and find the perfect dog for your family.

She’s the queen of soul … and full of heart!

Meet Aretha Franklin! Aretha Franklin is in a foster home in Spokane, WA. She is available for adoption in the local Spokane area. Because “Fur-st Impressions” are very important, schedule a meet and greet with Aretha Franklin before applying to see if she is the perfect fit for your family by emailing us at Fur-stImpressions@pathofhoperescue.com.  A completed Adoption Application will be required after the meet and greet to move forward with Aretha Franklin’s adoption.

Born in April of 2020, Aretha is a loving, adorable pup with the cutest pink smudge mark on her nose. A medium size American Staffordshire Terrier mix, Aretha Franklin loves to give kisses and has a way of looking at you with her head tilted, like she is hanging on to every word you say (or sing). Besides being a good listener, Aretha is thrilled to be in your life and adores being part of her human pack. Social and a natural performer, she hasn’t met an adult she didn’t take to right away. And Aretha can be a bit of flirt to get your attention; she’s quick to offer her tummy for belly rubs or nuzzle your hands to prompt you for pets and ear scratches. She is really a big snuggle muffin and is up for cuddles on the bed as well as games of fetch or some outdoor adventures. Aretha Franklin has done well with kids and other dogs, but a no cat home would be best for her.

Aretha Franklin is the type of dog who needs a strong leader to look up to and follow. Aretha’s adopter was a well-meaning individual who was unable to provide that role model, and this caused some anxiety and stress for Aretha. Her adopter was unable to become the leader Aretha needed, and she was returned to us. But the beauty of dogs is that they are always willing to learn. Aretha Franklin has been training with Courtney’s Canine College where she has been living with a strong leader and as a member of a dog pack. She has thrived in an environment with clear expectations and boundaries. Courtney will work with Aretha’s adopter to reinforce this training and set everyone up for success.

Aretha Franklin’s ideal adopter would exude calm energy and make her feel confident and secure in her place in the pack. Aretha Franklin will be a loving and loyal companion for someone willing to set expectations for her, give her tons of affection, provide her with exercise, and keep her to the boundaries and expectations that make her feel comfortable. We are waiving our normal $450 minimum adoption donation so you can put that towards training instead.

What is Path of Hope Rescue’s Adoption Process?

Our adoption process takes on average 7-10 days.

  1. Begin by completing the online application. EVERY application receives an email response from us (check your spam folder!).

  2. Your personal Matchmaker will contact you, help you find your perfect pup match, and guide you through the process.

  3. Meet your potential pup at the home of the foster family (the process may differ slightly for long distance adopters).

  4. Bring your potential pup home for a no commitment In Home Trial. In Home Trials are a minimum of (2) nights for a puppy and one week for an adult. Your Matchmaker will check in with you during this time.

  5. Sign the adoption paperwork and adopt your new family member!

Adopting from Path of Hope Rescue

  • Our adoption process sets us apart. We specialize in learning about you and your family to find just the right fit for you. Our Matchmakers are not only good at what they do; they will also guide you through the entire process.

  • Our Minimum Adoption Donation is $550 for puppies under a year and $450 for dogs a year and older. We are a WA state registered non-profit and rely heavily on adoption donations to cover the expenses associated with saving lives. Our dogs are spayed/neutered prior to adoption; microchipped with free lifetime registration; and up to date on DAPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccinations (when age appropriate) and deworming and heartworm treatment/prevention. Adopters can also earn a $100 training refund if they attend (6) hours of any in person training course.

  • Long Distance adopters (one hour or more from Spokane) may choose to travel to Spokane to pick up their dog or use our monthly transport option, Puppy Delivery Express, for an additional delivery donation of $250. Puppy Delivery Express currently delivers dogs throughout Washington and to parts of Montana, Idaho, and Oregon.

About Path of Hope Rescue

  • At Path of Hope Rescue, our goal is to make EVERY DOG. WANTED. Our two employees and army of volunteers focus on transporting pregnant dogs and puppies from Texas, the number one kill state in America. The dogs we rescue are in poor living conditions and on euthanasia lists in shelters that are inundated with unwanted animals. We want to give these dogs a chance and bring them to the Pacific Northwest to find adoptive, loving homes.

  • We are 100% foster based; our dogs are fostered in loving homes where they are house and crate trained and learn basic obedience and leash skills. Dogs experience socialization opportunities with people, places, and other animals, and they receive the attention required to become well-rounded, healthy, and affectionate dogs that they would not otherwise receive in a shelter environment.

  • Our commitment does not end when the dog is adopted. Path of Hope offers post adoption owner support including information on making the dog’s transition to your home a smooth one; recommendations for Preferred Trainers; advice on pet behavior and wellness topics; Facebook litter groups to keep in touch with fellow adopters; and invitations to local rescue hosted events.

  • Please visit https://www.pathofhoperescue.com/ for more information about our organization and the adoption process.
