Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Conrad is a charming Maltese mix with a heart full of love and a playful spirit! Estimated to be between 5 to 7 years-old and weighing around 15 pounds, he is the perfect small-sized companion. With his fluffy white coat and expressive eyes, Conrad is as cute as he is affectionate. While he can be shy and cautious in new situations, he is gaining confidence every day and is always eager to be near his favorite people.
In the home, Conrad is house trained and has a very clear way of letting you know when he needs to go outside—he’ll get in front of you and spin in circles until you get the message! He is also crate-trained, and has been doing well for moderate periods of time in the crate, this is a work in progress! On a leash, Conrad is doing wonderfully and responds well to gentle corrections. He enjoys a daily walk when the weather allows and has an impressive amount of energy for zoomies around the house. If you’re looking for a fun, active little dog who will keep you entertained, Conrad is your guy!
When it comes to socialization, Conrad is still figuring things out. He’lll do best in a home without children as they’re not an ideal playmate for Conrad, they stress him out! He does well with other dogs depending on their personality and play style. We recommend a meet-and-greet prior to adopting to a home with a resident dog to ensure a good fit. As for cats, it is unknown how he would react and we’d recommend the same process for a home with cats.
Conrad’s ideal home would be quiet and patient, with an adopter who understands that he needs time to adjust and feel secure. A fenced yard is recommended to help him explore and gain confidence in his surroundings. With the right family, Conrad will make a loyal, loving, and endlessly entertaining companion. If you’re looking for a small dog with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Conrad just might be the perfect fit for you!
The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

How We Help

Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.
Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.
Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.
We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.
We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
