Update October 2016: We have had Ruby for just over 6 weeks now and she is a great dog! She is now housebroken and crate trained. In fact, she loves her crate. She has learned to sit and to "down", which means she lays down on her back and show us her tummy. (She loves belly rubs!) We are currently working on "come", "drop it" and on her leash training.
Ruby can be very playful and is also very affectionate. She plays well with our 2 dogs and we plan to introduce her to cats very soon. She is good with small children, but sometimes get very excited and jumps and may need some supervision. She is now 7 months old and I do not think that she will be as large as her mother.
Ruby is a very sweet, female baby bloodhound! (mix?) Her mother is a full bloodhound, we are not sure who the father was. He could have been a bloodhound too, we just don't know. Ruby's mother is 115bs. Hounds make wonderful family dogs, they generally have gentle, sweet, dopey, fun personalities. They can be stubborn at times and especially being a bloodhound will have a desire to follow their nose! So for an adoptive home Ruby will NEED a fenced in yard, plenty of activity. We don't want these pups to be adopted out as hunting dogs. Not that they wouldn't make good hunting dogs or be able to be trained, but we want them to be considered family members, living inside (not outside in kennels as many hunting dogs are kept). So please read this before contacting us. We will only adopt to a home that plans to let them live inside with the family. She could be trained to hunt, but only if she is also allowed to be an inside dog. (She will be spayed too so many times hunters want unaltered dogs). Ruby needs a foster home to come to rescue, and of course she needs a loving, active adoptive home. If you are interested in Ruby please contact us. From Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloodhound This breed is gentle, but is tireless when following a scent. Because of its strong tracking instinct, it can be willful and somewhat difficult to obedience train and handle on a leash. Bloodhounds have an affectionate and even-tempered nature with humans, making excellent family pets. However, like any pet, they require supervision when around small children. Thank you.
