Little Bit was the runt of a litter born the first week of October in our courtyard to a cat that was feral before we started feeding her after she started hanging around in our backyard. The mother cat eventually moved the litter to our back porch, where we made sure they were comfortable and secure. About the time all of the cats -- mother and three kittens -- were sterilized in early January, the weather turned very cold with snow and we brought all the cats indoors where we cared for them during their recovery. The mother cat did not hesitate to return to the outdoors when she felt healed, but her three kittens adapted quickly to living inside and quit wanting to go outside except briefly. Little Bit caught up in size with her siblings and she was the first to not run when we came near and also the first to allow us to pet her head and stroke her back. She has become the most assertive of the litter, but also the one most accepting of affection.
