I am Looking For: My loving forever family! Hi! I'm Xena Princess, and I am a cute little kitten! I won’t ask for much- just some love, cuddles and lots of toys so I can run and play and be my kitten self.

What my Foster Says About Me: Xena Princess is settling in well. She started purring as soon as the car stopped. When her crate was opened, she came right out and went straight to the food. After she’d filled her belly a bit, she started checking out the space and occasionally coming over to rub against our legs and get scritches.  She seems alert, active, curious and affectionate. She’s playful and is enjoying chasing the cat dancer, and purrs while playing.  Aside from her purring, she’s been quiet so far.  At one point, she knocked a scratching board onto herself and didn’t seem phased by it a bit.  So far she isn’t keen on being held or sitting in your lap, but maybe that will change. We’ve heard that she is a love bug.

2/1 update - Xena Princess seems well at ease in her temporary home.  When her 48 hour decompression period was over, she was quick to leave her safe space and explore the rest of the house. She initially spent her time exploring, but by the end of the night had stopped to visit and get some pets and cuddles.  She loves squeezy treats like Churu, and quickly got comfortable crawling into our lap for a snack and some pets.  Now she visits and cuddles on her own, and takes breaks to make biscuits beside you.  She also snuggles down with you for a nap if you stay still. She still doesn’t love to be picked up, but she’s more tolerant of it than she was initially.  She did surprisingly well with a nail trim, once we had her in a cat burrito.

Xena Princess loves to play with the cat dancer and is a great huntress and acrobat, jumping several body lengths on the air at times to chase it, twisting in mid-air to capture her prey.  It’sa lot of fun to watch.  Aside from playing with her feline roommate, Xerses, she likes to play with a felt ball, and likes to use the scratching pad to sharpen her nails.  We hope to find even more toys that will capture her interest soon.  She uses the litter box very well.  We think her new family will love her to bits.

3/8 - Xena Princess’ great personality is coming through more and more.  She is affectionate, curious and playful.  She is quick to investigate any situation, and always ready to explore.  She can be tough to photograph as she always approaches to investigate as soon as she notices a phone in your hand.  She’s gorgeous, though, and has striking green eyes, and a cute little scar on one ear from rougher times.

She and Xerses are the best of friends.  We heard they were found on the street together.  They spend a good chunk of their time playing together (hide and seek, chase and wrestling are favorites), snuggling and snoozing together, and grooming each other.

Xena Princess loves to look out the window and can be found most of the day in one of a few spots that offer a clear view of the outside world. She will sit for thirty minutes or more attentively surveying all that passes by, then often move to another spot to resume her observations.  It’s fun to watch her adjust her head and swivel her ears to take in everything.  Of course, she is also a good napper.  We usually find her lying on a few blankets on a sofa, or at the foot of a bed, often with Xerxes beside her.

Xena Princess loves to play and seems like an excellent huntress.  She is the most athletic and acrobatic cat we’ve ever seen.  She keeps us in awe - and in stitches- watching her chase, leap and twist in midair to nab a cat dancer, which she seems to prefer to the laser pointer.  She often makes a cute chirp sound when on the hunt.  Several times, after we’ve thought she was done playing, we’ve seen her leap to snag the feathered end of the cat dancer and try to take it “back to her lair”.  When she’s not chasing a cat dancer, she also likes playing with a bottle cap, a cat tunnel, or pushing an empty box around the room.  We’ve noticed that she and Xerses will often take turns while playing, rather than chasing the cat dancer at the same time.  It’s very sweet.

Xena Princess is very affectionate. She spends a good chunk of each morning making biscuit on or beside us, snuggling up to us, asking for pets and chin scritches.  She likes to rub her head against your hands and against your phone if you’ve got one on one hand.  When you are lucky, she will settle down to rest beside you, or if you’re extra lucky, on your lap.  In the evenings, she will approach for more pets and scritches, and usually snuggles against or near us.  Sometimes, she’ll fall asleep while you pet her, which is pretty endearing.  We found that Churu helped to get her even more comfortable being on or beside us.  She’s still not a lap cat, though.

Xena Princess eats wet and dry food, thought she definitely seems to prefer dry food.  She’ll often do circle eights around your legs while you prepare her meal.  Between her and Xerxes, we joke sometimes that we are being circled by (adorable) sharks.  She’s also a big fan of Churu and Greenies dental bites.

She’s a wonderful, sweet and fun cat that’s going to make someone very, very lucky!

What the Shelter Says About Me: Xena Princess has lovely black fur with a wisp of white on her chest. We usually talk about our black cats as panthers, but Xena Princess might be needing to find a family or trainer to get her back into tiptop panther shape!  She is happy just the way she is, but this is not a lean and sleek girl, more solid and fluffy and prone to lay around and enjoy life gal. Activity, play and walking around a house helping you with chores would be helpful for her! Xena Princess does like to play and investigate her surroundings. She also enjoys having people come to pet and love on her! Maybe you can discuss a healthy lifestyle, portion control, and she will be willing to work something out. Xena Princess truly is a lovebug though and will give you every bit of heart and happiness she has!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!

Our adoption events are held each weekend. A schedule of times and locations can be found at www.luckydoganimalrescue.org.
