My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

****When responding please tell us about yourself(home, yard, family, fence, work hours, other pets?) or use the application at sparrowdogs.com*****

Lil' Miss Lydia came to us on October 31st, yep, a Halloween arrival. We named her after the girl in the movie BeetleJuice, Lydia Dietz. Seemed fitting given the day, and this little furry Lydia was also quite troubled and displaced as well.

Lydia had a family, but they took her to a vet clinic to be put to sleep. They said all she did was lay on the bed. Thank goodness for the kind people at the clinic that instead had the family surrender her so she could find a family that would love and care for her. She soon arrived with our rescue.

Lydia came in very terrified of everything, especially human contact. She has never been fear aggressive, in face she turns in to a statue when you hold her, she just freezes in fear. But with time, a little bit of meds, and loads of patience and TLC, Lydia is coming out of her shell.

Lydia LOVES to the other dogs and spends her days playing and rough housing. She enjoys her soft toys and will carry them around. Funny...all the toys seem to end up in Lydia's favorite napping spot, hmmmm. She has come a long way and she still has a ways to go. But there is so much hope for Lydia. She is a happy bouncy girl, loves being outside, loves her snacks(will follow us around for a treat). But-she still carries that fear of people, she just has not let her guard all the way down. Maybe she never will, maybe with the right gentle family and other dog pals she will learn to relax.

Lydia absolutely needs someone that has experience with fearful dogs. It is about winning her trust, letting her feel comfortable before forcing contact. Baby steps really, whatever happened in her life, she needs someone to give her the love she apparently has never had.

As adorable as Lydia is, she is NOT the dog for everyone. She is looking for someone kind hearted and patient with the understanding that it will be a little journey with Lydia to help her feel truly safe and loved. We think that with the right home she will progress like so many fearful dogs we have cared for. Lydia will need a secure fenced yard. Another dog in the home is a huge plus. Lydia is about 5 years old, 12 pounds or so. We are not sure of the breed(s), it is a pretty good guess. If interested Please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We have an online application on our website, sparrowdogs.com. Requirements vary as per the individual dog's needs as far as time alone, children, other pets, fenced yard vs. leash walking and such. Our adoption donations can range from $99 for less adoptable/older dogs, and higher for puppies and other highly sought after dogs(which helps us take in needy often medically challenged dogs and cats.)
Our contract states we have the right to visit the dog, check up periodically as well as take the dog back if necessary. We get first right to the dog if adopter chooses not to keep him. We want all adopters to realize this is a serious commitment and want our dogs to go to safe, loving homes.

Go meet their pets

We periodically have adoption events, check out our website for more info! But-most of our adoption do occur at our foster home where we feel the dog or cat will be much more relaxed and the adoptive family will be able to get a better idea of the dog/cats temperament.

More about this rescue

All of our pets are in foster homes, from Sheridan to Chicago, IL We take in many special needs dogs, some physically, mentally or behaviorally challenged. Some of them have been abused or neglected, many are seniors, most just need some understanding and patience. A lot of them have never heard a vacuum before or even felt a kind pat on their heads. Fostering them prepares them for the life they so richly deserve when a kind person adopts from us. When you adopt a shelter dog, you are making a giant step in reducing euthanasia for all these great dogs looking for a home. It is not their fault, it is the fault of the human that previously was involved in their life. Thanks for checking out our website, maybe you will find the pal of your dreams.
