My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Moonlight’s journey has been one of resilience and hope. Rescued alongside 11 other cats with the help of the Feral Cat Coalition, he was saved from heartbreaking conditions after being abandoned and placed in the care of an estate sale company when a rescue shut down. Thankfully Smittens was able to take in Moonlight and the 11 other cats so they could eventually be adopted. Despite years of neglect and isolation, Moonlight has shown incredible strength and is blossoming into a loving and playful companion. This sweet boy has come such a long way! Although he can be cautious at first, he now enjoys pets, affection, and especially belly rubs - where you might catch him making adorable air biscuits! He’s becoming more confident each day, exploring his surroundings, climbing cat trees, scratching on scratch pads, and playing with his favorite crinkle, feather, and wand toys - he also has a major appreciation for laser toys! While he’s still getting used to being picked up, he has made remarkable progress and continues to grow more outgoing and brave every week. Moonlight has a gentle, friendly nature and gets along well with both people and other cats. He has formed close bonds with two other cats from the estate sale, Rodney and Blaze. They get along wonderfully and love to cuddle together! Moonlight is also a big foodie and very food-driven. He’s looking for a patient, loving home where he can continue to build his confidence and finally experience the consistent care and love he truly deserves.

More about this rescue

Smittens isn’t just another cat rescue.
We are a coalition of volunteers with a spay/neuter mission, dedicated to helping both stray and owned animals in the greater San Diego area get fixed, receive veterinary care, and whatever else they may need! Smittens works with shelters and other rescues to route cats to proper vet care and eventual homes, and we take in stray cats who need help getting off the street. We also support TNR for feral cats, and assist cat and dog owners to get their own pets fixed and vaccinated at a low cost.
