My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

LOCATION: Jacksonville, FL
DOB: 03/10/2024

Meet Arlo, a spirited Great Dane/German Shepherd puppy with a heart full of potential and a playful spirit. Arlo's journey has been a bit bumpy, having been passed around quite a few times and lacking structure and schedule. But this big puppy is ready to find a loving home where he can thrive.

Arlo spends most of his day in his crate, which isn't ideal for a high-energy dog like him. Even low-energy dogs would struggle with being crated for 22 hours a day. Despite this, Arlo has shown no aggression—just a really big puppy who doesn't know one single rule. He jumps, mouths, needs leash help, and barks when people enter the yard or when people or dogs walk by. Our volunteer tossed him a few treats and basically told him to knock it off, entered the yard, and they became friends. Surprisingly, Arlo liked her husband more. The current family is scared of Arlo, which is another factor in his behavior.

Arlo has never had full contact introductions with dogs, but he did engage in play with the volunteer's dog at the fence. There were a lot of play bows, tail wags, and a happy doofus face. And that was with a barrier, which can be a challenge for some. We think he would love a home with another big dog to play with.

He's housebroken and, of course, crate trained. He doesn't like when his people leave and will bark. We are looking for an adult or teen kids-only family that has time to teach Arlo how to be the bestest boy. He will be a quick learner. No cats and no small dogs. A large dog or two to play with! They have spoken with a professional trainer, and they say there's a lot of potential for him.

If you're ready to welcome a high-energy, lovable puppy into your home and help him reach his full potential, Arlo is waiting for you. Consider fostering or adopting Arlo and give him the chance to be the best boy he can be.

More about this rescue

To rescue Great Danes from neglect, abuse, and abandonment while providing medical care and individual rehabilitation through our experienced and loving foster home program until we are able to provide each rescued Dane with a qualified, caring, and permanent home that will ensure a good quality of life they deserve.

To assist owners that cannot afford spaying, neutering or heartworm treatment as funds allow while also educating owners on affordable, local spay/neuter clinics, spay/neuter benefits, vaccinations, backyard breeding, behavior, nutrition, and obedience. Additionally, we want to be a link point to other rescues and clubs. Raising awareness around rescues and the Great Dane breed is of great importance to us.

We have been rescuing Great Danes since 2011 and we take pride in the collective love, concern, and dedication we have given to the misunderstood and forgotten Danes. It is our mission to continue to be the voices of the less fortunate Danes and to provide them safety and their birthright to a quality of life filled with love and dignity. You can help us achieve our mission by donating funds, items from our wishlist, items of relevance, your time through volunteering, or by lending your home as a foster.
