Hey, I'm Xavier-a two-year-old shepherd mix with the brains, heart, and potential to be an incredible companion. But for some reason, I keep getting passed by. I've been here too long, and the shelter just isn't where I thrive. What I really need is a fresh start-and someone who's ready to see what I'm capable of.

I'm smart, intuitive, and deeply loyal once I feel that bond. I already know some training basics and love having a job to do-it gives me purpose and helps me feel connected. I'd do best with someone active, consistent, and ready to bring out the best in me through play, structure, and a little patience.

Yes, I've got an impressive vertical (I can jump a 6-foot fence), but with a secure setup-or just a good leash and someone who keeps me close-I'll be happy to stay right where I belong. Once I have a home and a person of my own, I won't be looking to go anywhere.

If you are interested in adopting an animal, please visit our shelter and spend time with the animals. Upon application approval the adoption will be processed.

Puppies (under 5 months of age): $200
Dogs (5 months - 7 years): $150
Dogs (7+ years): $100

Kittens (under 5 months of age): $150
Cats (5 months - 7 years): $80

Woods Humane Society, Inc. is a nonprofit, privately funded organization dedicated to the humane care of unwanted animals in San Luis Obispo County. Our Staff, volunteers, and board of directors are dedicated to upholding our Mission and preserving the welfare of our present and future animals.

While we cooperate with the State Humane Association of California, the American Humane Association, and The Humane Society of the United States, Woods does not receive financial support from them. Only 20% of our revenues to care for the animals are generated by service fees, the other 80% is generated from fund-raising events, grants, wills, and mainly community donations.

Woods Humane Society is proud to be a leader among the nation’s humane organizations. Thanks to loyal and broad-based community support, and the diligent efforts of our dedicated staff and volunteers, Woods placement rate averages 97%, an outstanding achievement.
