Meet Chico, a playful, curious, and sweet adult dog who`s known for his friendly demeanor. He`s a 10-pound bundle of joy, always ready to cuddle and share his love with those around him. Chico`s curiosity makes him a great companion for outdoor adventures. He`s leash trained (and mostly house trained, we think) and loves to prance and frolic during walks, adding a spring to your step. His alertness is balanced by his playful jumps, making every day with Chico a fun-filled experience. Chico`s sweet and friendly nature makes him a perfect fit for any home. He`s a social butterfly, easily befriending other dogs and forming deep bonds with children. His sweet demeanor is paired with a proud spirit that shines through his noisy barks and excited tail wags. Pet Adoption Fees
CAP adoption fees include a variety of services - age-appropriate vaccinations, canine heartworm, and feline leukemia tests, spaying/neutering, deworming treatment, microchipping to name a few - the total value of which exceeds $450. These minimal adoption fees cover only part of each animal's stay at our shelter - please help us keep adoption fees low while maintaining the high quality of care for the animals in our charge by donating and/or volunteering.

A second dog or puppy, adopted within 30 days of the first adoption receives a $20 discount.

Any dog/puppy adopted at the same time as a cat/kitten will be adoptable at a $20 discount.

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
