My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Dax and I am galumphy young Dobie. I love people but don't know how to meet other dogs well so may not be a good fit with a home with other dogs right now. I'm pushy and growly and just need to learn how to greet them calmly. It will take someone who can take the time to help me learn since no one ever has. People are my favorite and I will lean into you, sit between your legs while you're standing, and have the classic dobie affinity for laying my head on your lap and on your arm. I need to gain some weight as the kennel environment is not my favorite.

More about this shelter

Norman Animal Welfare is a municipal shelter operated and funded by the City of Norman, Oklahoma. In addition to providing a safe environment for our adoptable animals we also are responsible for the enforcement of all animal related laws within the City of Norman and holding all stray animals that are located. In addition to these main roles, we also provide public microchipping, city pet licensing, and other educational services to our community.
We average approximately 3,400 animals in and out of our facility each year. We have an amazing facility that fully opened in 2016. We operate daily with a very limited staff supported by several amazing volunteers. We operate an active foster program and are always seeking to work with those in our community interested in assisting us in our mission.
