My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Angelina !!
It’s always the little ones that make for the fun posts lol. She needs the right home willing to allow her time to settle in and feel safe. If you push her in the first few days she can and will bite you. If you’re patient you’ll have the most loyal and loving dog.
She came to us with daughter Zahara (who was already posted and pending adoption) They were both infested with fleas causing hair loss and very under socialized.
Angelina is a approx 4 year old female Shih tzu. She currently weights 11 pounds and is full grown. She will be spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines as part of her adoption. She is heartworm negative. She did have to be toweled at the vet so make sure you have a vet willing to handle spunky ones.
As we said already Angelina is a fear biter. She takes a few days to a week to fully trust anyone new. If you push it she will bite you. Once she realizes you’re safe she becomes very sweet and loving. She will however not like your house guests or new people she meets. You need to fully understand that about her. We don’t know what she’s been through but she’s not a social dog. She will be you and your immediate family in the homes best friend, and likely continue to distrust anyone else. This is who she is. If she progresses past it then great, but to adopt her you must accept that she may never change.
Despite her fear her training isn’t to bad. She has been very easy to have in the home so far. She is very quiet and will sleep in her kennel all night. She is potty trained to pee pads and has also started to go outside as well. We would suggest always providing the pads to help with accidents as that’s what she’s used to. She did fine in the car rides she’s taken. We haven’t attempted leash training with her yet. She needs a fenced yard given that you can’t grab for her to leash her until she likes you.
Angelina has done fine with other dogs but is cautious of them at first. Dogs that leave her alone would be the best match. She’s not really looking for a playful dog in her face. We are not sure how she would do with cats but she would prob be fine.
Kids are a tough one, initially we would have said flat out no. That was before she formed a bond with the Foster’s daughter. HOWEVER, the Foster’s child is a unique kid. She’s very calm and quiet and very dog savvy. They have an adorable relationship but that’s not likely going to be the case for most kids. If your child does something to scare her she will bite them. If your child has friends coming over to play that mess with her she will bite them. We would only consider sending her to a home with an older calm child in certain circumstances. It would be better for her to go to an adult only home with adults understanding of her needs.
She has had no trouble sharing food, treats or toys with other dogs or humans. She so far has a fairly low energy level. She likes to sit on the back of the couch and watch everything. When she starts to feel comfortable she will play with you. You need to take it slow. She can get scared easily and try to bite for awhile.
If you are wiling to give her space and time to adjust you will get an awesome companion. If you’re antisocial she will definitely help you fend off pesky friends and neighbors lol.
➡️Vet and home checks required.
➡️ Fenced yard needed due to her initial fear biting.
Located in Hampton VA.
