My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I’m Nero, a 11-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, or Yorkie. I weigh 12 lbs. I may be named after a Roman emperor, but in reality I’m the sweetest guy you could ever hope to meet!

  • General Behavior: Nero is extremely laid-back and low-maintenance. He is healthy and content to snooze all day, snuggle, and eat. He likes to lounge in the lanai area and sniff around the yard. He is not a fan of taking a walk, but will begrudgingly take one if there’s another dog around.

  • Likes & Dislikes:  Nero loves two things in life: food and snuggling. He is happiest sitting next to you on the couch.  He’s a big chow hound and has had a hard time losing the extra pounds he needs to lose. He also loves toys and likes to play fetch.

  • Training: Nero is generally a good boy. He is not housetrained and at his age will very likely not ever be - he does wear a belly band in the house and that works great for him. He is a good passenger on car rides, sleeps in a dog bed at night, and generally has good basic manners.

  • Medical: Nero only needs his monthly flea and heartworm preventatives, like any dog.

  • Other Animals: Nero does well with other small dogs. He has not been observed around cats yet, but his foster thinks he’d get along with them.

  • Children: Nero does NOT like small children so he can’t go to a home with any child under 10 years old.

  • Home: Nero is not a big barker and would do well in an apartment, condo, or single-family home.

  • Grooming: Nero will need regular brushing plus professional grooming about every 6-8 weeks.

  • Overall: Nero will be a wonderful companion for snuggles, snacks, and lots of love.

Is Nero the laid-back hero you need in your life? Then visit our website www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt. You’ll be put in contact with the foster family for more information if it’s a potential match. He is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and neutered, and he has just had his teeth cleaned.  His adoption donation is $200.

We are a foster-based rescue organization and do not have a facility. We have all events posted on our website each month.

More about this rescue

Poodle and Pooch Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that saves dogs that truly need help. We rescue the "leftovers" from animal control, the dogs nobody wants because they're older or suffer from neglect, abuse or have a medical need. Their "last" day becomes the first day of their new life. We provide the veterinary care they need, a foster family they love and when they're ready, we adopt them to a family who cherishes them. We do not have a physical shelter because every dog lives with one of our foster families. We are all volunteers so your tax-deductible donation goes directly to help the dogs. We have saved over 5,500 dogs since 2008.
