My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Meet Bernie, the two-year-old lab/Great Dane mix who's on a mission to find his furever home! This handsome goofball is bursting with energy—seriously, if he were a car, he'd be a turbocharged Furarri F40!

With a heart of gold and a good-natured attitude, he’s fantastic with other dogs. He dreams of a playmate who will match his level of enthusiasm and have endless zoomies around a fenced yard.

Now, don’t get us wrong, Bernie knows his commands, but he's still a bit of a "work in progress"—like a toddler trying to build a model airplane. He could definitely use a patient owner who can help him polish his skills and possibly create a few hilarious moments along the way.

Here’s the scoop: while Bernie has enough affection to fuel a small country, he might not be the best fit for homes with young children. Let's just say he prefers a calm environment where he can channel his inner zen master—complete with occasional goofy outbursts!

If you're ready for a big, lovable goofball who will fill your life with joy, laughter, and enough shenanigans to keep you on your toes, Bernie is your pup! Come meet this charming fella—just be prepared for a lot of tail wagging and possibly a few slobbery kisses!

Additional adoption info

The final step is to sign the adoption contract and make the adoption donation fee of $400.00. This may seem high, but it is actually a bargain! Your new pet will be up to date on the necessary vaccinations required by the age of the dog at time of adoption, spayed or neutered, on heartworm preventative and flea and tick meds, micro-chipped, groomed, and well on his or her way with basic obedience and house training. All of our dogs will be adopted out with a collar and leash, and a PMR tag.

More about this rescue

We are an all volunteer rescue organization devoted to saving dogs from shelters, puppy mills, abusive situations and abandonment in North Carolina. Our members foster, transport and help the rescue efforts with their individual skills, experience, knowledge and expertise, and most importantly, their love of dogs.

At Pawfect Match Rescue we believe that ALL dogs deserve a second chance regardless of their breed or age.

We take a different approach to rescue. We don’t try to save the masses; we just save ONE at a time and make them the best dog they can be by the time they find their forever homes.

By that we mean that we take them into our homes where they live amongst us and our pets and are treated as one of the family, not as a foster dog. We accomplish this by limiting our fosters to one or two per household.

Besides the basics of crate training and house training, we teach them basic obedience, we groom them, feed them a high quality dog food, and last but not least, we shower them with LOVE and attention that hopefully teaches them to trust again and realize that life really IS good..

We’ll never be able to save them all, no matter how many we try to pull and foster. So we believe that the one at a time approach with the extra TLC allows us to really KNOW the dogs and be able to match them more precisely with their new families.

This ends up being a win- win situation for all involved.

Pawfect Match is all volunteer and relies solely on adoption donation fees and public support. Most times our adoption donations do not cover our medical expenses.
