My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Copper, a 1 year old male Bassett Hound! Copper has been in a foster home with four other dogs and has proven to get along well with everyone he meets, after he has a chance to settle in and adjust. Copper loves to play, run, wrestle and romp with the other playful dogs in his foster home. He is a snuggler, lover, player, and all around adorable and silly pup, looking for his forever family!

This adorable boy is SO SMART and learns quickly. He is housetrained and with continued support, should continue to be a star student. If Copper could speak, he would say, 'don’t let my traditional Bassett Hound knees fool you, I can run and play with the best of them! I have so much excitement for you that when you return home, I can’t contain my droopy lips from making the cutest fluttering, vibrating sound of excitement.' His large, adorable ears sometimes get in his food bowl but he doesn't care a bit- this darling boy LOVES to eat!

Copper is looking for an active home with, or without, another playful dog. He would enjoy a fenced yard, however would also do well on leash for potty and walks, so long as he was able to get out often to move and do his business. Copper is crate and leash trained and enjoys to play with and snuggle. He gets along great with respectful kids and adults, of all ages. Copper is a young dog that is still learning about the world around him. He can be naturally protective of his resource items (toys, food, people) with other pets however has been very responsive to positive correction and re-direction from his people and is generally wonderful around other dogs! He will likely be fine with dog savvy cats as well, and just ignored cats when tested.

Potential adopters should have a good understanding of the Bassett Hound breed and have a plan for continued structure, boundaries, and daily activity to help Copper continue to be his very vest self!

Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-served basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. ALL CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $200. If you are interested in adopting Copper, please fill out an online application at https://caws.org/adoption-application. Thanks! Additional adoption info

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.

Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
