My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Toby – A Sweetheart in a Small Package!

Toby is as sweet as he is handsome! This adorable mix of Papillon and Chihuahua is overflowing with charm, combining two breeds known for their loving and playful personalities. His affectionate nature and irresistible looks make him an easy pup to fall in love with.

Toby is 10 lbs and about 10-12 months old.

Toby gets along well with other small dogs and has a friendly demeanor toward everyone he meets. However, his shy side means he’d thrive in a home with older, calm children who can respect his need for space. With time, patience, and love, Toby is sure to blossom into the perfect companion—a small pup with a big heart!

A Work in Progress with Housetraining
Toby is diligently working on his housetraining and loves to hear an encouraging “Good potty!” when he goes outside with his human. He’s also pad-trained, giving you flexibility as he continues to learn.

Playful Yet Cautious
While Toby enjoys playtime with other dogs, he takes a few days to fully warm up. Once comfortable, he’s quick to join the pack for backyard adventures and fun. Whether as an only dog or sharing a home with other pups, Toby is happy as long as he feels secure. However, Toby isn’t a fan of feline friends, so a cat-free home is a must.

Healthy and Ready for His Forever Home
Toby is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on his DAPP, Rabies, and Bordetella vaccines. He’s all set to start his next chapter with a loving family!

If you’re looking for a small companion with a big personality, Toby might be the perfect fit. Are you ready to meet your new best friend?

Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. To recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for TOBY is $500.

If you are interested in adopting TOBY please complete our online adoption application at https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/ . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, and confined to the SF Bay Area.

Additional adoption info

The Grateful Dogs Rescue adoption procedure is designed to find a good match between the dog and adopter. Our goal is a happy foster to forever transition. The adoption procedure includes an application, interview, home check, and an adoption donation. The adoption donation helps to cover spay/neuter, shots and other medical care given before the dog is made available for adoption.

More about this rescue

Grateful Dogs Rescue was founded in 1990; its mission is to rescue dogs not made available for adoption at San Francisco Animal Care and Control, and other local shelters, through no fault of their own. Rather than letting these dogs be euthanized, Grateful Dogs saves as many as possible by fostering these dogs in a loving home until a forever loving home is found.

Grateful Dogs Rescue is always in need of new foster homes!  You can make a difference by fostering. The number of dogs we can save is dependent on having foster parents to care for them until they find their forever homes. All of our dogs are in foster care.
