My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Cowboy: The Rootin’ Tootin’ Fetch Machine! Howdy, partner! Lookin’ for a loyal sidekick to wrangle up some good times & steal a few belly rubs along the way? Say hello to Cowboy, a 3-year-old certified Good Boy™ with a heart as big as the Texas sky (and a love for tennis balls just as grand).
Cowboy’s skills:
House Trained: He won’t leave surprises where they don’t belong – unless you count his habit of sneakily stealing hearts.
Crate Trained: It’s his cozy saloon where he kicks up his paws after a long day of being awesome.
Tennis Ball Pro: This boy doesn’t just chase tennis balls; he lives for them. If you throw one, he'll retrieve it like it’s the gold rush of 1849.
Cowboy has a soft spot for female dogs, which means he’d be thrilled to have a lady companion. Think of him as the ultimate southern gentleman: polite, charming, and quick with a paw-shake. While he’s selective with his canine buddies, when it comes to humans—especially kids—Cowboy is all in. He’s the perfect sheriff for your little ones, keeping them entertained and snuggled. But Cowboy’s looking for a special kind of outlaw: someone who’ll join his posse, spoil him with adventures, and make him the center of their Wild West dreams. His only demand? A safe home & chow when he’s hungry.

So saddle up and ride off into the sunset with Cowboy! He’s the doggone best partner you’ll ever have. Ready to meet your new best friend? Cowboy is just one “Yeehaw!” away from being yours.

More about this shelter

In August of 2015, the Idaho Falls community realized its dream of opening a second animal sheltering facility. Unlike other animal shelters, the Snake River Animal Shelter (SRAS) will provide an animal an unlimited length of stay, thus avoiding the need for euthanasia.

SRAS was built to take owner surrenders and transfer animals from other shelters throughout the Upper Snake River Valley, thus relieving overcrowding at the city operated animal shelters throughout East Idaho. We operate solely on donations, grants and sponsorships from businesses and individuals. This unique place offers adoption services and a place for the animals to socialize with each other and their future families. Education is a large part of the existence of this facility, educating the community about proper pet care and responsibilities. We also facilitate and partner in spay and neuter programs to alleviate the problem of too many unwanted domestic animals. Snake River Animal Shelter offers Elementary-age field trips, tours, and presentations and invites teens to participate in the care and feeding of the SRAS animals. Senior citizens are welcome guests and fulfill many volunteer positions that are essential for the care of our animals.
