My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Akela is a lovable, big teddy bear of a dog, with a heart as massive as his blocky head. This handsome hunk lives for snuggles and attention — if you’re petting him, you’re his favorite person. If you stop petting him, he’ll often put his paw on you to let you know that he would very much appreciate if you continued to give him all the ear scratches and tummy rubs. Akela’s top love languages are definitely words of affirmation and physical touch.

While he does enjoy relaxing and sunbathing in the backyard, going for long walks and exploring new places is one of his favorite pastimes. After a long walk, he will contentedly lay by your feet and chew his favorite bone, no matter what you’re up to. Akela also loves a good car ride and is always a perfect gentleman in the car. He just watches out the front window as you drive and enjoys the scenery. He’ll even accompany you to your favorite restaurant and sit with you while you eat your favorite meal!

Akela loves playing with his canine buddies and even knows how to adjust his play style according to what the other pup needs and likes. While we know he would flourish in a home with or without other dogs, we do think he would do best in a home with no cats, as he loves to chase them a little too much for his size.

Akela may look like just another big boy without any brains, but he is actually very smart! He knows how to sit and shake and adapts to structure and routine very quickly. He doesn’t mind hanging out and taking a snooze in his crate at any time and is also house trained. He does have an odd preference of pooping in bushes rather than out in the open, but he knows to do his business outdoors. While he can easily snore the day or night away in his crate, we’ve found that he definitely appreciates snuggling in bed with us and will not move an inch once he’s settled into the blankies.

If you’re looking for a big cuddly boy with lots of love to give, please apply to adopt Akela today!
