Dog Name: Chip
Breed: Mixed Breed
Sex: Spayed female
Age: 14 years
Weight: 50 pounds
Medical Needs: Chip is on a once a day routine of 100mg of Carpaquin (30 day supply cost is about $50) and joint health supplements (64 pieces cost is about $65) to help with age related arthritis.
She recently had a 15mg librella injection (cost is $70) and those are typically given monthly.
She will need to be on joint supplements and pain management for the rest of her life.
Chip tested positive for ehrlichiosis and is currently on a round of doxycycline. Once she is done with the round of medication, she shouldn't have any future complications associated with it.
Housebroken: yes, in her previous home she had a doggy door, but has had 0 accidents in her foster home where there is no doggy door.
Crate trained: She isn't a fan but we are working on it. When not in the crate, she has shown no signs of destructive behaviors so far with me.
Good in the car: Yes, but I recommend securing her in some way. Remaining stable through turns is a bit much on the old hips.
Good on a leash: yes
Energy level: low
Need a fenced in yard: no
Dog Friendly: yes
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No
Cat Friendly? Yes, she previously lived with a cat.
Kid Friendly: not tested, but she hasn't shown any aggression or fearfulness towards strangers on our walks.
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any with proper supervisor
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?
Chip is a sweet old lady who spent her life from the age of a puppy until about 1 month ago with 1 owner. Due to health issues her previous owner can no longer care for her, and that's where Grass Roots Rescue stepped in to help.
She likes the simple things like watching the birds. Sometimes chip will whine until I open the door so she can just lay there looking outside.
Her previous owner kept her groomed regularly for majority of her life and she's very well behaved at the salon.
When strangers to Chip enter the yard, she will circle them and wait for you to call her to leave them be. Even at her age she takes pride in her guard dog work.
Chip can be a bit messy when she's drinking water. I recommend placing a towel beneath her water bowl.
Chip is the perfect low energy dog for anyone seeking a companion pet who has a bit of an intimidating bark.
