Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
This bonded pair of diabetic big boys are very sweet. This dynamic duo came to us when their previous owner passed away. He was a lover of cats and it shows, as these guys are very friendly. They are both diabetic and are currently on 2 units of Lantus insulin twice a day for Jazzy, 1 unit of insulin twice a day for Paulie. Ideally you want to give the insulin approximately 12 hours apart, right after meal time. They are both good eaters and should be fed 3/4 - one full can of 5.5oz PATE twice a day. No shreds or any wet food that has gravy, as this is not good for diabetics. They should not be allowed to free feed and shouldn't be eating dry food (unless you get prescription diet diabetic dry food).
Jazzy is the boss of the two, he likes to scope out the room and is the first to approach other cats. Paulie hangs back a little and follows Jazzy's lead, but they're very must a bonded pair - always head butting each other, often found sleeping together. They have both cute but unique meows, Jazzy sounds like he is growling but it's just a guttural meow, whereas Paulie has a cute silent meow that often just comes out as a gasp. They're quite the characters! Paulie is a lap cat, Jazzy isn't totally convinced of the lap yet but they both love scritches and pets all over. Paulie prefers a wiggly string toy whereas Jazzy prefers a crinkly ball toy.
Their foster family has noted that they are mostly fine with other cats. Jazzy and Paulie are big boys and they're used to being in charge so they may posture a little around other cats but they don't start trouble. They do like to chase a reactive/scaredy cat though, so keep that in mind if you are a multi-cat household. Either way, we would recommend a slow introduction to other cats because these guys are a pair so they will likely outnumber the rest of your crew.
Jazzy and Paulie are both up-to-date on their vaccinations and neutered. Jazzy is around 11 years old and Paulie is around 8 years old. They are eligible for our discounted special needs rate because of their diabetes. They are very good for their shots which a) is a very thin needle that goes in the back of the neck, they don't even flinch if you do it while they are eating and b ) Lantus insulin is now capped at $35 a vial and should last 90 days, so it's neither the financial or medical hardship it used to be. Our foster would be happy to show you how good they are for this medication! We do recommend regular vet visits to track their blood sugar - this can also be done at home with help of a vet's advice (also something the foster is willing to advise you on).
