My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Alastair might not be a pint-sized "little" puppy anymore, but let’s face it—he's still absolutely, undeniably, stop-you-in-your-tracks adorable. From his impossibly fluffy ear feathers that could make angels jealous, to his awkwardly charming adolescent fluff, and that delightfully lanky "I'm-still-figuring-out-my-legs" body—this boy is pure, unfiltered cuteness in motion.

Alastair is about 5 months old and tipping the scales somewhere around the 40-pound mark. Now, we don’t expect him to grow so massive that he starts blocking doorways or requiring his own zip code, but he’s definitely on track to be "big enough to be impressive." Not so big that he takes up the whole couch for snuggle time—unless you have a small couch. In that case, you might as well accept your fate: either Alastair will be sprawled across your lap, or you’ll find yourself squished at the very edge during movie nights, clutching the popcorn like it’s a life raft. Now, let’s talk about his lineage, because this combo deserves a standing ovation: Alastair is a Great Pyrenees mixed with… drumroll, please… a Poodle! That’s right, folks, the fluff meets the floof. While his coat leans more Pyr than Poodle, his brainpower is pure poodle brilliance paired with the majestic charm of a Great Pyrenees. It’s like he’s the canine equivalent of a Nobel Prize winner wrapped in a fluffy cloud. Now, let’s address the elephant in the room—or rather, the fur in the air. Can we promise you that Alastair won’t shed? Nope. The truth is, he probably will shed, and we’re talking about enough to knit a new dog on a breezy day. But hey, there’s always the slim chance he won’t, and imagine the disbelief on your friends’ faces when they see a Pyr-Poo that doesn’t create daily fur tumbleweeds. You’d be a walking urban legend!

Alastair’s journey to us began with a concerned woman who spotted him being given away on Facebook. In the photo, he didn’t just look neglected—he looked like he needed help immediately. She reached out to the family, who explained he was from an unplanned litter, half Great Pyrenees and half Standard Poodle, and they were desperate to “get rid of him.” When she went to pick him up, they literally tossed him to her without a word and drove off. They removed over 1,000 ticks—yes, a thousand—from his tiny body. It was clear he wasn’t the 8 weeks old they had claimed; he seemed younger, weaker, and in desperate need of care. He was also treated for three different kinds of worms (don’t worry—he’s worm-free now), got up-to-date on his vaccinations, and had an ear infection taken care of. Slowly but surely, Alastair started to transform into the spunky, adorable pup he was always meant to be. The lady who initially took Alastair in did so with the best of intentions, but as she quickly realized, she wasn’t physically able to meet his high-energy needs. She had hoped that maybe my son might want him, and while he absolutely adored Alastair, the reality of his physical limitations made it impossible for him to care for a lively puppy. So, after some careful thought, they made the difficult decision to surrender him to us.

Despite his past, when it comes to affection, Alastair is a total cuddle bug. He’s not shy about showing how much he loves you. Whether it’s a gentle kiss or resting his head on your lap like he’s trying to absorb all your love, this boy is pure sweetness. And if you're lucky enough, you might catch him looking up at you with those soulful eyes as if to say, “More pets, please!” He’s also a quick learner. He figured out the doggy door in no time and now it’s his personal portal to freedom. In and out, in and out—Alastair loves having that independence to roam and explore. Food time is his favorite time, of course. This guy is an enthusiastic eater, and he’s always ready to let you know when it's chow time. He’s also vocal about his needs. Whether it’s his hunger making itself known, his demand for you to open the baby gate, or his desire to accompany you to the bathroom (because who doesn’t want a furry audience?), Alastair has no problem making his wishes known. He’s an absolute people dog and wants to be involved in everything you’re doing. Whether it’s hanging out while you’re working, playing with the other dogs in the house, or just being nearby, he’s always happy to be part of the action. Alastair is a toy enthusiast to the extreme. He’s got a collection that he loves to carry around, swapping one toy for another as he casually strolls around like he’s running his own personal toy parade. One minute, he’s proudly holding a squeaky ball, the next, he’s off to find something else to add to his “stash.” It’s a daily, adorable routine!

Alright, let’s dive into the next big question: How does Alastair get along with other dogs? Well, here’s the deal: he’s a dog lover through and through. If there’s a dog around, Alastair is ready to turn the whole day into a game of fetch, wrestle, and zoomies. So, if you’ve got a playful dog looking for a partner in crime, Alastair is your guy! But if you’ve got a grouchy old senior who just wants to enjoy a peaceful nap or a tiny dog who’s barely the size of one of Alastair’s paws, then he might not be your best fit. Now, if you’re working from home and you’re an active person who can give him all the attention, walks, and playtime he needs, Alastair would thrive as your one and only dog. He’s the kind of guy who doesn’t mind being the center of attention, as long as he’s got a human to dote on him. But if you’re working 9 to 5 and planning on leaving him home alone, well... you’d probably come home to a lot of sad puppy eyes, some very dramatic sighs, and maybe a few disappointed stares. Alastair is not about that solo life. He’s here to live, love, and be part of the action, not to chill in a quiet house waiting for his humans to come home. As for cats, Alastair hasn’t had any firsthand experience with them, but with his lovable personality, he’d probably try to befriend them... whether they want to be his friend or not. He’s that dog who would be like, "I’m just here to give you love!" while the cat is silently plotting its escape. We can’t promise he won’t come on a little strong, but we do know he’s a sweetheart at heart and will give it his best shot. When it comes to kids, Alastair is a total charmer. He’s a big, goofy guy who loves their gentle pets and can’t wait to join in on their adventures. Whether they’re searching for treasure in the backyard, playing hide-and-seek indoors, or just curling up together for some post-play cuddles, Alastair is all about it. Now, don’t get us wrong—Alastair might look like a big ol’ teddy bear, but he does take his guarding duties very seriously. If someone new walks onto his turf, he’ll give you his best "I’m-a-big-boy-now" bark that sounds more like a Pyrabear than a puppy. He’ll keep his distance at first, making sure everything checks out, but once you’re in his circle, he’s all about the kisses, the play, and the cuddles. Alastair’s the kind of dog who makes sure his people are safe—and then spends the rest of the day being the sweetest, most fun-loving companion ever.

If you're looking for a dog to be your ultimate sidekick, look no further—Alastair is ready for adventure! He’s the perfect car companion, whether he's lounging comfortably in the backseat or sitting tall with his nose pressed against the window, soaking up all the sights and smells. He’s got the energy to keep up with your spontaneous trips and the charm to win over everyone you meet. Don’t be surprised if, by the end of the day, you’re walking around like the proud parents of a local celebrity—Alastair will have earned all the adoration! On walks, Alastair is already showing off some pretty stellar leash manners for a pup his age. He’ll happily walk right by your side without trying to drag you down the street like you're in a race to catch the ice cream truck (though, if you did try to race him, he’d probably beat you!). However, if you’re more of a homebody, Alastair will happily adjust to that too—just as long as your idea of an outing doesn’t involve the 10-foot trek to the fridge for a snack during your Netflix binge. He does need some stimulation, whether it’s a good walk, a game of fetch, or some good old-fashioned playtime with his fellow canine companions. Now, if you live in a tiny apartment, we might have to reconsider. Alastair is not exactly the “compact size” kind of guy, and his vocal personality can fill a room (or an entire building). And yes, he's still in his puppy chewing stage—think of it as his way of figuring out the world. Shoes left within reach, a forgotten Christmas decoration (hint, hint!), or the corner of a table might all make it onto his "chew it" list. But no worries—he's learning and redirects well, as long as you keep those toys in rotation! A puppy-proofed house is highly recommended because, let’s face it, puppies will be puppies. Speaking of puppy-proofing, if your plan was to kennel him when you can’t watch him, think again. Alastair has zero interest in being cooped up in a kennel, and trust us, you won’t be getting any sleep until he’s free to be with his family. This guy does not do confinement well—he’s more of a “lapdog” than a “kenneled dog” and asks that his new family respects that. He’s got a bit of the “claustrophobic” vibe when it comes to small spaces, so give him room to roam! When it comes to potty training, Alastair is already a pro. He can hold his bladder through the night and is familiar with the doggie door—as long as he’s on a good schedule, you won’t be dealing with little “oopsies” around the house. But, like any puppy, he needs structure, so keeping him on a solid routine will make sure everything stays smooth sailing.

If Alastair’s big fluffy heart has already wiggled its way into your soul, then prepare for a whirlwind of snuggles, playtime, and endless adorableness! First things first, head over to our adoption page and fill out the application at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app. Once we get that, we’ll send it over to his foster family to make sure you and Alastair are the ultimate match—because this lovable guy is looking for his forever home.

Currently living his best life in Oklahoma City, OK, Alastair is ready to start his happily ever after, but if you're not local, no worries! Why not make it a road trip? Alastair is way too cool for commercial transport—he deserves a first-class journey to his new family. Plus, a scenic drive gives you the perfect opportunity to bond with this charming, playful pup before he officially becomes your new sidekick.

So, buckle up for the adventure of a lifetime—Alastair is ready to make his next chapter as epic as he is!
