Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
No one will make all of your days feel sunny like our boy SONNY here! Sonny is a gorgeous shepherd pup who is estimated to be around 6 months old. He may be young, but he already weighs in around 50 lbs and is likely going to be a big boy! Sonny ended up at the shelter as a result of landlord issues. Since getting here he's shown us what an active and playful boy he is!
He's now available for adoption and foster at ACCT Philly. He will do well with an active owner who can provide him training, structure, and enrichment, to help him grow into the best boy he can be!
You can meet Sonny any day from 10am-6pm if interested in adopting him. Interested fosters should email foster@acctphilly.org.

Behavior:
Per Staff 1/7/25: Sonny is an excited vocal pup! He appears to be a shepherd puppy and is very high energy. He was very excited for leashing so I had to loop his neck up high to avoid his paws since he was jumping on the door. Super high energy in the play yard. He loves to romp around, pulls moderately on leash. Treat motivated and takes treats very gently but doesn’t seem to know commands. Not super interested in toys, but likes romping around and chasing them. Chased after birds in the play yard so seems to have a prey drive
Per Staff 1/6/25: BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Owned
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
In kennel Sonny was laying on his bed and alert barked at the handler when she approached. He sat upright on his bed and the handler tossed the leash for him to sniff. He darted away so the handler lowered the divider. He was a pro at dodging the leash and kept play bowing, dodging, pawing at the leash and barking. Due to this leashing was difficult but after several tries the handler was able to leash him and he exited without issue.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally, darts around while walking
HANDLING :
In the room Sonny was timid at first and a bit shy, but warmed up very fast! He needed baby talk and encouragement to approach new people but with time, he would quickly loosen up and solicit. He allowed all over handling without any issues, leaning in for pets and was very tolerant! He would get overstimulated easily, mouthing at the handler and jumping. He took treats very gently when offered as well and showed knowledge of sit.
PLAY:
Engages in play! Mouthy and jumpy though, would benefit from further training and learning boundaries!
- Bares teeth at times when playing / mouthing at you
TOYS:
Interest but no possession
COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Gold
Per Staff 1/5/25: Brought Sonny out for some activity time, as he was super cute in his crate and I wanted to meet him. He was barking at other dogs and displaying some reactivity to them when leaving kennel, but was manageable on leash still. I brought him into my office and he was very wiggly. He was shy when first meeting new people and would cower away and raise his hackles, but would slowly approach and warmed up fast. Once he trusted us he was very playful and displayed lots of puppy mannerisms. He can lack boundaries and would get pretty mouthy when playing, leaving red marks. He will bare teeth when playing as well, which could be off putting to adopters so important to note that it is playful. He would benefit from an active home where he can get more training and learn boundaries.
