My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

COURTESY POST - This cat is not with FRAs. Please contact Victoria at 469-855-5722. Birdie is a young and spirited kitty with a lot of love to give. He’s a little over one year old, neutered, up-to-date on his rabies, FVRCP, and leukemia vaccines, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. While he’s scared of dogs, he enjoys playing with calm, docile cats. Birdie wandered frightened and hungry onto his foster mom's patio, and after a few nights of feeding him and trying to gain his trust, he eventually let her pick him up and bring him inside. He didn’t learn bite inhibition as a kitten, so when he’s playful or being handled, he may nip or use his teeth. Because of this, he’s best suited to a home with an experienced cat owner who understands and can manage these behaviors. He needs a patient adopter familiar with working with feisty or temperamental kitties. A meet-and-greet is highly recommended to ensure he’s the right fit for you. Despite his quirks, Birdie is a sweet and loving cat who deserves a forever home where he can thrive. If you’re interested in giving this unique kitty a chance, please contact Victoria at 469-855-5722January 5, 2025, 10:36 am

More about this rescue

Friends of Rescue Animals (FRAs) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. FRAs was founded in 2004 by 4 volunteers who wanted to support the Rowlett Animal Shelter. Our organization has grown to over 300 volunteers, and with this growth, we now support two municipal shelters -- Rowlett, TX and Garland, TX – and operate our own cat rescue program.

Our mission is to provide resources, programs and education to promote adoption and care of homeless pets in our community. FRAs’ vision is a world where every companion animal has a safe and loving forever home. We are a 100% all volunteer run organization, and our ability to help homeless animals depends on donations from the community and grant funding.

Our organizational programs include operating the volunteer program for both shelters, providing funding for heartworm treatments and emergency medical care, accepting cats from the shelter and citizens into our foster-based cat rescue, supporting TNR/SNR efforts for community cats and most recently funding dog transport initiatives. Our volunteers spend thousands of hours socializing and marketing the animals for adoption, which increases the number of animals with a positive outcome. FRAs has helped countless pets avoid euthanasia, find their forever homes and live longer, healthier lives.
