My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We're all tired of the snow and the cold, and we know one thing that will cheer you up: SPRING!! Spring is a super sweet young pup who has found himself in the loud shelter. Since getting to the shelter, Spring has shown that his favorite way to pass the time is cuddling! He loves to be in your arms taking all the pets. Spring is a young boy and could definitely use a patient human to train him and show him the ropes! We know that person is out there, and he'll repay you with plenty of hugs and kisses.

Spring is now available for adoption and foster at ACCT Philly. He's had good dog meets since getting to the shelter. You can meet him any day from 10am-6pm, interested fosters should email foster@acctphilly.org!

Behavior:
Per Volunteer 1/7/25: Spring was very loose for leashing and very patient getting out of his kennel. He’s very easy to leash and walk with just some minimal pulling. Super cuddly!! He came to myself and another volunteer for affection and took pets all over. He’s pretty skinny and very snatchy with treats- give with an open palm. He just needs someone to show him the ropes! Loves to cuddle and super wiggly. Knows sit. Treat motivated boy who is eager to learn! Sweet boy, just needed some leash pressure to get back in kennel

Per Staff 1/6/25: Spring did great outside today and was friendly with all handlers. He solicited attention often and was very wiggly leaning in for pets and rubbing against us. While shy at first he warmed up very quickly and was a very sweet boy! Switched to gold.

Per Staff 1/5/25: Very wiggly coming in the room for medical intake, allowed touching all over from multiple medical staff and aca's. tail wagged the whole time and show no reaction to shots with cream cheese on door. A very happy good boy!

Per Staff 1/5/25: BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Spring

KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Spring was in a side bank curled in a ball with wide scared eyes and began trembling when I crouched down. I opened the kennel door slightly and reached in with the leash which he pulled his head away from. He pinned the back of his head in the corner but still allowed me to reach in and secure it. Once secured he relaxed his head back down in his ball. I tried to coax him with a treat but that only got him out half way so I used some leash pressure.

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally – fearful on leash
Did not want to return once i picked up the leash and tried to walk–pancaked, pulled back

HANDLING :
In the room, Spring ran right under the desk with a tucked tail and sat in there trembling. He would peek his head at me so I let him sniff my hand and tried to pet him but when I did his eyes got wide and he slowly turned his head around. I gave him some more time and offered him a treat, which he took but then dropped. Every time I touched him he would flinch and try to cower away. At one point he built up some courage and put his head on my lap for some nice pets with a tucked wag before hiding again. This cycle repeated many times and then we reverted back to not wanting to be touched. He is a very scared and fearful boy and is just unsure on how to accept love. I gave him about 5 more minutes before interacting with him again and offered him a treat. He ate the treat and came out to me with a tucked tail. With some more treats and baby talk I got some very nice tucked wags and pets in.

PLAY:
Fearful, followed me with a lowered body and tucked tail

TOYS:
Interest but no possession

COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Experienced Blue
