My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hoagie was one of the many faces we visited on one of our shelter trips. He was gentle and quiet, and patiently waited for his turn for attention as we made our way up and down the kennels. The day we met him our car was filled with other lives saved, but his fuzzy face stuck in our brains and as per usual we finagled things as best we could and made our way back to get Handsome Hoagie.
Poor Hoagie sat at the shelter for almost two months. He was Heartworm positive, had come down with phnemonia, wasn’t eating, and was losing weight. The shelter worked to get him feeling better the best they could, and we were honored to pick up where they left off.
Hoagie is estimated 9 years old and is a squatty 47lbs, though he still has some weight to put back on. While he may be a senior, he has aged backwards as we have gotten to know his personality. Initially a chill senior soul, so much so that the shelter described Hoagie as “exuding tranquility,” Hoagie’s goofy side has taken over. Hoagie LOVES to play with other dogs, gravitating to puppies and small dogs, and he is always making friends in daycare. We also found out Hoagie LOVES toys, and he will throw his head up in the air, tossing the toy with it, and prance happily to go grab it and repeat the game.
Hoagie is a true gentlemen in boarding, he knows basic commands, and he loves a long leisurely walk to let his nose guide him to all the good smells. We would love to get him into a foster (or better yet adopter ) home and see how he flourishes in a home setting - as we know he will. Please share Hoagie far and wide! He is the best kind of bread - soft, sweet, and even gluten free!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

When you adopt a dog from Swamp Haven, you’re not just saving a life. You’re beginning a journey filled with love, loyalty and trust. Life can be busy and stressful. The companionship of a dog is a constant reminder to slow down and enjoy the little things. At Swamp Haven, our mission isn’t to just help down-on-their-luck dogs find their forever homes. Our mission is to create a lasting relationship with you and your family.
Adopt happiness. Our adoption process is unique in that we work with you every step of the way to ensure that we’re placing the right dog with the right family. First, chat with us about what you’re looking for in a dog and we will set up a time for you to meet the lucky pup. From there, fill out an application. Once reviewed we set up a time to bring your potential pup to your house for a home visit and trial week. We want to make sure it’s the right fit for both your family and the dog involved. We will be totally available during the trial week for any questions or concerns. The last step is to finalize the adoption. And then congrats, you’re a new member of the Swamp Haven family and your happy tail has just begun!

Our adoption fee is $350

More about this rescue

Swamp Haven is an animal rescue organization that takes down-on-their-luck dogs and nurtures them back to a healthy mental and physical state, so they can find their forever home. Our goal is simple. We save innocent dogs that have been overlooked by society and provide short-term care including vetting (vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip and heartworm and flea prevention) and training to learn how to walk politely on a leash, play in a pack and live calmly and lovingly in their new home.
