The depths of human cruelty continue to astonish me. Today, we are welcoming a remarkable spirit into our care, a boy who has endured unimaginable suffering. He was abandoned on the Reservation, his legs cruelly bound with zip ties. It’s evident that he has been in this agonizing state for some time, as the ties have painfully dug into his skin. Ironically, he has been given the name Zip.

The sheer willpower it must have taken for him to navigate the world in such a dire condition is truly unfathomable. Picture being left alone, helpless, with your legs restrained in a desolate place, devoid of any support or means to escape. It is a stark reminder of the violence we, as a species, inflict upon innocent beings who deserve compassion and care.

We urgently seek your support to help this sweet boy heal and eventually find a loving forever home. Estimated to be just one to two years old, Zip is a small Rottweiler who, despite the torment he has faced, remains a loving and gentle soul. Adoption Fees:

All adoption fees include spay/neuter, all vaccinations and current worming plus any other needed veterinary care to date.

More about this rescue

Founded in May of 2004 by Floss Blackburn, Denkai Animal Sanctuary has enjoyed a long running successful path in providing life saving services for domestic animals in crisis throughout the United States and Mexico.

In the formative years, Denkai established in Weld County, CO having purchased three facilities totaling over 640 acres, performing farming, conservation, large animal rescue, pet animal rescue and low-cost veterinary care for the area, Denkai quickly established as the largest and most diverse organization of its kind in the area.

Seeing a gap in services and need for a strong presence in Montezuma County, Denkai's board of directors voted to relocate the organization in 2017 to Yellow Jacket, CO. In three short years, Denkai has expanded to a second location in Cortez, CO. This location at 209 West Main was purchased in September of 2020 with the help of Region 9 and First National Bank of Cortez.

Denkai -Cortez, CO - This is our 16,000 sf retail center - The store boasts an adoption center for rescued dogs and cats and sells retail pet supplies, accepts donations of used items, and provides low cost programs such as pet food and vaccinations for low income pet owners.

Since Inception, Denkai has provided hands on rescue services to 13,000 pet animals and equine in need.
