So you didn't get a Hippopotamus for Christmas?:( Well here you go, your very own HOUSE HIPPO!
This sweet "exotic microbully" is another victim of designer dog being bred for profit and ending up in homes unable to meet their medical needs. In his case, just simple regular nail clipping would have prevented extremely painful infections in his feet from nails that curled around multiple times right through his paw pads. It was the worst ingrown nail our vet has seen (and sadly they have seen a lot of very neglected dogs with ingrown nails) He's feeling better already and walking more comfortably on soft surfaces, getting his feet soaked and infections under control as well as some mild skin allergies treated. Otherwise he's not in too bad shape for his breed... which are bred to essentially be crippled with deformed legs and noses too short to breathe through properly:( He needs someone who is committed to caring for him properly for life and facing health issues that will likely arise as he ages. He's a gentle loving little guy, has lived with cats and loves people, and would love to find a home very soon. He's 35lbs but short and stout foot-stool shaped. Please submit an application to meet Hippo! Primary Color: Grey Secondary Color: White Weight: 36 Age: 2yrs 1mths 0wks

More about this shelter
Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.
To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
