This helps CalPaws K9 Rescue with pet care costs.
Old Lady? No way! Don’t let the white muzzle fool you, Dakota is a lively senior shepherd mix! We are just getting to know this girl, but we already know she is AMAZING!
Dakota was dumped at the shelter in Tulare in early December and was put on the Euthanasia list. CalPaws was notified in late December and volunteers swooped in to save her.
Dakota is adjusting nicely to her foster home, and is is absolutely a dog who bonds quickly. She likes to be close to you in the house or outside with you playing with her tennis ball
Introductions are easy! Grown ups and little kiddos are greeted with a sniff, a kiss of the hand (or face) and then she moves along. With other dogs, she greets from the side, an appropriate sniff and then one bark before she continues on her walk. Silly girl!
Commands? Yes! She knows sit, down and spin solidly. We are working on wait - she does it well when a treat is involved.
Further training will be easy as she is very food motivated. She gets super excited at her meal times and does a little dance on her hind legs while her food is prepped.
Prey drive? Yes! She loves a good squirrel chase.
She is possibly cat workable / we have two feisty cats who like to hiss and make a fuss and to Dakota that means the chase is on!
She walks well on leash with a standard collar. There is some pulling at times, but she does well with correction. We’ve done a 30 min walk in the morning and evenings and that seems to be about right - she is ready to be home.
