Meet Addie (Addison) - a pint-sized bundle of happiness! This 9-pound female Shih Tzu is proof that the sweetest things come in small packages. Despite being small in stature and with the littlest legs, she zooms around her foster parents’ house like she's training for the Olympics. At 4 years young, she's well educated in some important indoor manners. Addie is working on house training and has a PhD in Professional Cuddling as well as a Master's degree in Belly Rub Appreciation. She has a sweet personality and beautiful black and silver coat. Some of her favorite activities include sleeping on the couch while you watch your favorite show and gazing out the window. Addie also loves to explore the backyard but hasn't quite figured out what to do on a leash. She rides in a car very well and gets along with other small dogs, cats and well-behaved older children.
Addie was previously owned by a breeder and has had some puppies. Although she can be a little shy at first, she is well socialized and warms up very quickly. If you are looking for a compact companion who is equal parts affectionate and silly - she's the one!
The following are requirements for Addie’s future family:
1. An adults only home were someone is home much of the day. Applications will be considered if there are children in the home over the age of ten and if they have had previous experience in gently interacting with small dogs.
2. A family who will continue exposing Addie to new experiences, such as teaching her to walk on a leash.
3. Provide Addie with plenty of daily exercise and stimulation, including walks and supervised time in the yard. A secure, fenced yard would be ideal.
4. A home with another small dog would fine, but she would also love to be the sole focus of the family.
5. Live within an hour’s drive of Minneapolis, MN.
6. Agree to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September.
Addie is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. She does have a cataract in her right eye, and the rescue is consulting with an ophthalmologist to evaluate the health of both eyes and determine future treatment options. The rescue will coordinate this with the adopter if future steps are to be taken. Her adoption fee is $370.00 plus $31.54 sales tax for a total of $401.54.

Once you have completed and submitted the application, it will be reviewed by an application committee who will decide if it is an appropriate application for one of our Shih Tzus or for a particular dog in which you are interested.
The application gives us an idea of your living situation, your family, your lifestyle, and what you are really looking for in a companion. As everyone knows, the requirements and expectations for dogs all vary, and like humans, each one has its own character and personality. With regards to dogs, some are mellow and just need a place where they can be a companion to people and relax and live out their lives. Others are more active or like the companionship of another dog. But they all need to be in homes where they are understood and loved unconditionally.
After reviewing the adoption application, an adoption coordinator will call for a phone interview to chat further about the dog and you. Upon completion of the phone interview we check your references to make sure that you are, in fact, who you represent yourself to be as both a person and prospective dog parent.
The next step is to verify your living situation. Once again, all dogs have different requirements, an example being that some dogs really need to go to homes where a fenced yard is available, whereas others are fine without a fenced yard. We also need to make sure that you are the owner of the home that you reside in, and if you are not, then we need to get consent from your landlord that the dog you are looking to adopt will be allowed in your home.
Finally, we will do a visit to your home, where all family members must be present, and you will get to meet the dog you are considering. Hopefully the visit will tell us that this is the match we hope it will be! At that point, if it is true love, then you may welcome your fantastic new Shih Tzu into your home for the beginning of what we are certain will be a wonderful, loving forever relationship. Please understand that it is the decision of the foster parent as to whether the family, home and dog are an appropriate match.

Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota (STRMN) is an all volunteer organization with a mission to Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Re-Home Shih Tzus and Shih Tzu mixes who are in need of loving homes. We believe every dog should have a second chance, and should be treated as a living creature with respect, dignity and compassion. While our volunteers are located in Minnesota, we are committed to rescuing Shih Tzus from other states as well. As long as we have an available foster home, we will rescue and care for another Shih Tzu. STRMN is a 501c3 charitable, non profit organization. All donations to STRMN are tax deductable and 100% of donations go toward the care and comfort of our rescued dogs.
